When will the earth die?

in about 5 billion years, the sun is supposed to collapse into itself and become a red giant, when it runs out of hydrogen fuel and starts fusing helium.

when this happens, the sun's size will get much more massive, ending around where earth is, supposedly. however, as this happens, it will also become less dense, and thus, have less of a gravitational pull.

because it's gravitational pull will be weaker, the planets will sort of spiral away, since they will still be in their set orbits. perhaps some orbiting objects will be lost when this happens.

i believe that as the earth spirals away, it will try to break from orbit, but the sun's pull will still be too strong, and it will set our orbit to be elliptical, much like a comet.

during the times further away from the sun, it will likely be too cold for any plants to survive, also having to deal with a different light... and the shock of things being so different... lets' just say that survival will be very difficult

[note:the earth can live on after humans die out - or vice versa]

That's also been my question for years. However, my guess is that the world will become destroyed in about 100 years. The ocean might die first though. Then as our planet gets polluted even more in the air and water. Once its polluted completely, nothing could survive on Earth.
