"Constipation is defined as having a bowel movement fewer than three times per week. With constipation stools are usually hard, dry, small in size, and difficult to eliminate. Some people who are constipated find it painful to have a bowel movement and often experience straining, bloating, and the sensation of a full bowel.
"Some people think they are constipated if they do not have a bowel movement every day. However, normal stool elimination may be three times a day or three times a week, depending on the person.
"Constipation is a symptom, not a disease. Almost everyone experiences constipation at some point in their life, and a poor diet typically is the cause. Most constipation is temporary and not serious. Understanding its causes, prevention, and treatment will help most people find relief."

To identify symptoms and exclude other causes of constipation, the doctor will begin by obtaining a complete medical history and performing a physical examination, including a rectal examination. The doctor will also check for "alarm" symptoms, such as blood in the stool, anemia, weight loss, or fever.
When talking to a doctor it is helpful to be prepared to describe the nature of the symptoms, when symptoms started and how long they have persisted, past medical procedures, and any medications being taken. The more information the doctor has, the better he or she will be able to exclude structural disease with appropriate tests and design an appropriate treatment plan. Therefore, it is important to talk freely about personal bowel habits and be specific about the stool form or consistency. Since many of us find this topic embarrassing, it often helps to write down symptoms and other factors ahead of time.
The doctor will look for any diet or lifestyle factors that could contribute to constipation. These might include:
* Too little fiber in the diet
* Certain medications
* Poor bowel habits or inadequate access to toilet facilities

Hi there !
Follow these golden rules..and you will find that the world is really a beautiful place to live !
But dont tell me ..."I dont have time" ..or .."I am very busy"..etc...
beacuse I pity people when they say that they dont have time for taking care of their own health..
1. Take the dinner early..The last SOLID food you take should be latest by 7.30 pm. After that if you feel hungry, go for bananas, or friuit juice..
2. Take at least 1500 ml of water / liquids per 24 hours..
3. Reduce the NV proportion and increase vegetarian proportion in the diet..
4. More green leafy vegetables and fruits in the intake..
5. However busy you are, you should be in position to devote 45 minutes time per day for some good BRISK walking...if you want company...the best company you can ask for is..your better half...so that it will take care of her health too..
5. Lastly, if you feel that you have any medical problems which need to be attended to, show it to some leading consultant NOW...beacause...
"a stitch in time saves nine"
The causes for constipation are many ...
Starting from the lack of water intake , lack of exercise, problems of the lower intestinal tract like rectum, colon etc etc..
Dont worry about the causes...because 95% of the cases of constipation are treatable by the mere adjustment in the life style of the individual..
All the best...

Sluggish movement of digested food in the large intestine causes constipation. Fibrous food and exercise can overcome this problem.

not enough fruits, vegetables, exercise and water. Fruits and vegetables have certain components that the body cannot digest so it passes through the body quickly. If you do not drink enough water, the body will try to hold on to the water, so the stool becomes dry and hard. Exercise speeds up you body metabolic rate..
