There's actually a story behind the animation.
Most toons, here in the States at least, are self contained episodes that can stand on their own. With the anime we watch, each episode is part of a larger story. The characters are more "fleshed out" and they actually develop and grow in character over the course of the series.
For the masses who just hate anime to hate anime, or put down anyone who likes anime, think about the fact that most of the cartoons YOU grew up on originated in Japan as anime, were influenced by the anime in Japan, or they were licensed out to Japanese anime studios for design and development. There's almost no cartoon that hasn't been touched by the Japanese or Japanese influence except maybe the earlier works of Walt Disney and of course the original Looney Tunes.

LOVE IT!! And yes, Lighthawk - you got it, hun!! For sure! As he basically said, the characters do grow & evolve once they've been created... that's what makes the storylines so interesting! Even the anime is stretched out onto Manga series (comics) and expanded even more. He even mentioned the better point of the basis of American cartoons as well. And then you have the beautiful artwork that goes along with it - very much eyecandy!
For me, I love a huge combination... the classics, such as Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, Berserk... then I like Fruits Basket, COWBOY BEBOP, Azumanga Daioh, Bleach, Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka), and Ranma 1/2.

Yes, I love it, I think anime is one of the best things here in the U.S. My opinion is that anime is basically the closest to making the human body drawn. Both anime and manga. So you can count me as a person that likes / loves anime.

There are good ones. But not anything that has big eyed spiky haired big boobed hot legged people is anime!
In fact there are so many lousy "animes" that I consider to be cartoons instead.
Well I like anime. But enough of the Beyblade and Super-Yoyo and other crap like that.

yes i like anime no i LOVEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! anime because sometimes anime can sometimes relate of something thats in your life.But mostly of the action the romance ,Drama,but mostly is because the way the characters main goal or for the power they have in them.For example,Naruto was born as an only child but the thing about him is that fox demon inside of him.Same thing as sasuke he has the power of the sharingan eye thanks to his brother Itachi.so yeah this is why i like anime.It is just a giant thrilling ride.
