There are three options: sclerotherapy, EVLT (laser), and surgically stripping the vein.

I've had sclerotherapy, which was effective but not permanent; I'm getting EVLT at the end of the month because it's supposed to be the least invasive and the easiest to recover from, but it's expensive. Surgical stripping is still done, but I think the recovery period is quite long.

PS: If you're doing internet research on this topic, make sure you spell your search terms right: it's "varicose".

Good luck!

I work for a company that has discovered a drug for varicose veins. It really works and people who would rather not have surgery for varicose veins or hemmorhoids opt for it. The name is Daflon 500. Its a flavonoid. No side effects. Its even safe for pregnant women although precautions are still needed before pregnant women use it, of course. The only problem is it might not be available in the US market cause its owned by the French. Ask your MD about it. Recommended dose is one tab twice a day.

I got the surgey a year ago-My insurance covered because mine were bad.You can go for the stripping or the new heat and shrink style of removal. My left leg was stripped and my right leg was done using the heated tube. The right leg healed quicker and looks better but my left leg couldn't have the heat tube because the veins were to large. Any how-no regrets here and my legs look and feel better.

Depending on the type and location of them, you can have them either surgically removed, or have them injected with a special solution which collapses them. My mother in law got the injections done on her legs, and the results were very, very good.
