My neighbor just build a large garage in the back corner of his lot. When I bought my house, the view out of my kitchen and livingroom windows were of a treeline. Now, because of the way my house is positioned on my lot, I stare directly into the wall of his garage. What plants can I put on my property line that will effectively screen my view of my neighbor's garage and not take over my or his lawn?

You will want an evergreen hedge if you want a year-round screen. Measure the length that needs coverage and take this information to your local nursery. Your best option, I think, would be upright Arborvitae. They form a dense hedge that can be sheared and kept from growing too high. Get instructions on how far apart to plant them and ABIDE BY THEM. It's tempting to plant them too close together. Sure, it will take a little time, but so will any screen. The bigger you can afford to buy, the faster the coverage. Fall is an ideal time to plant, BTW.

That's odd, we built a garage where we did in our yard so we wouldn't have to look at the neighbor, seriously. But anyway, Keeps on dancing is right, you definitely want an evergreen so you have year round appeal and something that wont get out of hand. I have seen yards with Arborvitae rows and they look rather nice. They should also be readily available at any local garden center or nursery. Good Luck!!!

I'm going with the people who suggest some sort of evergreen hedge. Arborvitae would be my choice. It's tall but not too tall and it grows in thick. Remember to get the tall kind (pyramidal) and not the short ones (globe).

I think too this might be a hedge plant that your neighbor might like to because it looks nice and will give him or her privacy too.

A good evergreen hedge of laural it may take up to 5 years to completely hide the garage depending on the size of plants to begin with, but it will do a very good job!

I too had this happen so I planted areca palms, and giant birds of paradise, and some budda belly bamboo, but I live in Florida. You will need to get plants that will work for your zone.

go to a nursery and pick one out that you like and can thrive in the climate that you live in.............lilacs are nice, but some do not like the scent...........there are many trees or bushes that can do the job.......you will need to see about care, pruning, etc.
