I know I've been waiting for SP1 for a while, and I'll welcome the ability to install just one big patch as opposed to lots of little patches. The "Program Access" function will also be welcome to those who are tired of IE, Outlook Express, or other MS programs constantly intruding on those of us who try to use something else. While MSN Messenger is listed, there doesn't appear to be a way to turn it off, which begs the question as to why it's actually listed. It doesn't matter, though, as I've already removed Messenger long ago ... and good riddance.

This keys issue is the biggie here. As previously noted, Windows Product Activation gets to know your machine quite well and complains a lot if you swap hardware frequently. While I have no sympathy for people who are using pirated versions of XP, I do know of some people who have legal, fully licensed copies of XP but have used the Corporate Select key just to bypass the annoying WPA. Those people are going to get bit by this, and it may not be pretty.

The hacker community, understandably, will not just take this lying down, and is most likely working on a way to undermine it already. Indeed, methods to bypass the Windows Update lockout already exist, such as downloading the patches and hot fixes and manually applying them. It is unlikely Microsoft will remove the ability to download the fixes due to the overwhelming demands of corporate sysadmins who have locked workstations out of using Windows Update.
