Do you mean the best way for you or the goldfish?
If you mean for you, then it would be to flush them down the toilet: drop in, pull flush, job done.
You don't really want goldfish guts all over your shoes do you?
But for the goldfish - neither is the best way.
The most humane way is to take a knife and slice through the spine of the fish, just above the gills. If done correctly, it should kill them instantly.
Please consider looking for homes for them first. The above method is usually used on diseased fish, not unwanted healthy ones.
EDIT: I have noticed that my answer has received two thumbs down.
I can't think why, because apart from answering your question - to stamp, or to flush - I have also given you the most humane way to kill a goldfish, from an expert's opinion.
Ask any expert on aquatic life and they will tell you the same thing: the most humane way to kill a goldfish is to slice it fast above the gills, through the spine.
I also advised you to re-home the fish before eliminating them, so really cannot understand the thumbs down.
Must be some sick people out there...

Your no longer meant to flush any fish down a rest room it may introduce disease into the water strategies and its cruel if the fish remains alive once you flush it ,it truly is going to die a gradual painful demise . If the fish has died then bury the fish if the fish isn't needed then re homestead to a pond . yet goldfish can stay as a lot as 40 years so why might want to anybody favor to flush there 40 365 days previous puppy .

You shouldn't have gotten it in the first place. And you ppl who are like hang it or feed it to the cat and the rest of you with stupid answers get a life. Goldfish are intriging animals that can live about 20 years. Put it on ebay or some other website for free I'm sure someone would be willing to pay for the shipping of it. Or just simply bring it to the petstore, or give it away to someone you know who actaully cares about the fish.

Almost all pet & aquatic shops will take back fish free of charge and the fish will live a normal life, so its not like you're stuck between a rock and a hard place of those 2 options.

the beat way to get rid of an unwanted fish well the most humane way is to ask if anyone has a fish tank and see if you could pass the fish on. but freezers are a last resort

give them away to a friend or neighbour. or release them in a local pond. don't stamp on their heads. how would you like it if i did that to you. before buying pets in the future, you should make sure that you are willing to keep them for the rest of their lives. NOT until the novelty wears off.

quote: Flush them, or take them to your local pond or stream and set them free. They'll be okay that way.
Please please do not listen to this dumbass, you will just be releasing a foreign species into your environment, which may well kill all your local fish.
Look for a good home for them, if they die in the meantime, throw them in your garden or something, don't flush, you could be introducing foreign diseases to your local fish also if you flush it.

This is why parents should refuse to purchase their little ones pets, EVER, until lil babies turn 18. No character whatsoever. Yeah, stamp them to death, that's really necessary. Have you ever considered letting them loose in a pond?
