They have Neville,Terry ,Ferdinand and A.Cole it's hard for any team to get past their defense and score.

I see your point. Any team having these players should be very strong in defense.
But having good players alone is not enough, they must be able to function as a team, accommodate each others style and be focused.
England are shaky at the back sometimes, as they proved against Sweden in the World Cup, as well as defeats to Denmark and Northern Ireland.
Italy and France are the other 2 standout teams where defense is concerned. Although they may contain some players on the wrong side of 30, they have shown their reading of the game remains at a high level.
But time appears on England's side. The players are maturing and are yet to reach their peak.
The case for the defense looks brighter with each passing day.

they no doubt have some amazing guys on the defensive side, but probably not the best as there are a lot of great defenders playing in other countries.

It is a solid defensive block. Very dynamic and quick. Too bad England doesn't know how to score. Bad for them, I mean.
