dosen't all human life have value?

if a person is pro-life .. they should believe that every human life is worth something. who are they to pick and choose who is worthy to live or die? isn't that somewhat hypocritical?

and before you ask ... yes i have been the victim of a very violent crime and no i do not believe the person should die for it. we are not God.

does society not see that the death penalty is NOT a deterrent? and if even ONE person is put to death who was innocent (and trust that it DOES happen), is that not enough to abolish the practice all together?

>>Study after study has shown that once the death penalty has been carried out, that criminal never commits another crime, not even shoplifting. Odd, isn't it?<<

the death penalty does not deter other criminals ...

what if that person was wrongly convicted? is it "ooops .. too bad so sad?"

"Over 122 people have been found innocent of the crime they were sentenced to death for."

# New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a Republican, has reiterated his opposition to capital punishment. Bloomberg noted, "The death penalty I've always had a problem with, because too many times in the past you've seen innocent people incarcerated and, tragically, every once in a while they've been executed. And until you can show me that the process never would ever convict somebody that later on we find out was innocent of a crime, murder is murder no matter who does it, and I think we as a society can afford to incarcerate people." (The New York Times, July 31, 2003).

# In New York, the five men convicted in the Central Park Jogger rape case were found innocent, although they confessed to the crime.

Is the death penalty a deterrent to violent crime?

* Based on numerous studies, former Attorney General Janet Reno and the American Society of Criminologists agree that the death penalty has no deterrence value.

* Janet Reno stated at a Justice Department news briefing in January 2000 that: "I have inquired for most of my adult life about studies that might show that the death penalty is a deterrent, and I have not seen any research that would substantiate that point."

FOR THE RECORD:

i am pro-life. i do not believe in abortion .. NOR do i believe in the death penalty.

if even ONE person who was innocent ...was put to death ... then it's a practice that should be abolished. how is it logical to say: "you know ... you are bad. killing is wrong. so now i'm going to kill you. YOU were wrong to kill .. but the goverment isn't." it is SENSELESS.

Capital punishment is not carelessly or casually applied in any situation I am aware of. The Mosiac code of the old testament calls for it in many crimes. The guilty, once convicted of capital crimes, most often murder, are themselves put to death. There is a very low rate of recidivism here. Unborn babies however are the most helpless and innocent of beings. To rip them callously from the womb and flush them is human butchery of the lowest kind, on a level with the Nazis throwing living children into the ovens when they ran out of Kyclon B gas. But liberals have no problem with protecting the guilty from punishment and condemning the innocent to death. Call me old fashioned, but I can't figure it out.

Why can't the Left wrap their minds around the concept of guilt and innocence?
The death penalty is not meant to be a deterrent. It is a solution, a dead murderer can not kill again.
On the other hand a murdered child will never accomplish anything.
Why should a woman have the right to commit murder when no one else can.

We are pro-life for those that deserve it, such as the fetus and babies. The death penalty is a huge deterrent. Study after study has shown that once the death penalty has been carried out, that criminal never commits another crime, not even shoplifting. Odd, isn't it?

A person's position on the death penalty usually comes from the amount of television they watch. People who watch a lot of TV news fear crime more and support the death penalty.

The answer is simple, and obvious. Those who've been sentenced to death have been convicted of a crime that they did not have to commit. They have free-will, and they had a trial with all Due Process rights observed.

Aborted fetuses committed no crimes, nor were they given their day in court. It's all about justice.

The unborn are innocent people who have never harmed anyone and yet liberals want to kill them. People under the death penalty have murdered others, yet the liberals want to save them. Talk about hypocrisy.

Probably for the opposite reasons that so many of the "pro-choice" people are also in favor of euthanasia for the disabled yet so violently against the death penalty. Sounds very selfish to me. Are they worried that they may face the death penalty some day?

BTW, you have a twisted view of the conservative right.
Not all are in favor of the death penalty. Some are even activists in trying to have it abolished.

Not sure - seems a little hypocritical on the face of it.

I guess they believe that an unborn child has never sinned, so it deserves to live.

An unborn child has not committed a crime that is punishable by death. Those on death row have.
