counter-clockwise when viewed from the top. it becomes the opposite when viewed under. rotate your fingers counterclockwise and slowly bring it up above your head. you will notice it now turns clockwise. the transition is at eye-level (or equator) where there is no rotation. if you flush the toilet in the equator, like in singapore, there will be no rotation but will flush straight down. this is because of the coriolis force brought about by the earth's rotation. cyclones rotate counter-clockwise in the northern hemisphere & opposite in the southern. remember these cyclones are viewed from satellites or "from the top".

It does go down in the opposite direction in the two hemispheres. We were taught why at Technicon but I forget.

Yeah it is true and i saw a program on bbc where some man was travelling across the equator and in africa he stood 2metres north of the equator line and the water went down one way then he went 2 metre to the south of the equator and the water went down the other way, it looked quite kool/
