Ferns and grasses make a good low-maintenance show. Roses too can be grown in containers. I've grown hostas, begonia and various varieties of herbs and mint which add extra elements to container based garden areas

Roses need full sun! For shade, Impatiens is your best bet for lots of color. Begonias and fuschias are dramatic but a little fussier. Ferns would add a touch of texture, height and grace. A painted fern is especially nice, and it's a perennial.

Impatiens and fuschia are colorful. Ferns add texture and volume. All are low maintenance and simply require regular watering.

Ask at your local garden centre, or check the labels. They will say whether suitable for Sunny or shade.
