Don't worry. It's not a big deal.

Try taking deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth while they are prepping you. When they go to put the IV in, don't watch and keep breathing. Once they have you under, you won't even notice the passage of time and you wake up. If you feel any pain when you wake up, make sure to tell a nurse so they can give you something.

Sandwhiches and Crisps? I wouldn't. I had my tonsils out when I was 14. I ate alot of yogurt, pudding, juice pops, and ice cream. Bread pudding was the most solid thing I ate, I think for the first few days. I'd buy some protein drinks or meal replacement drinks before you go.

I'd skip drinking anything hot for the first day after the surgery. Keep it cold. Cold water, cold juice, cold sports drinks. The next day I'd go back to your normal tea or coffee drinking habits.

It was pretty much the same for when my 3 year old had her tonsils out. She did eat chicken nuggets on the way home from the hospital but after that she refused anything else solid for a week.

Keep reminding yourself that your doctor does this all the time. How many times do you think he/she has done this surgery? When my daughter had to have her tonsils out, her doctor had a whole day of the week set aside specifically for tonsilectomies.

The operation really isn't anything to worry about, though I know I sure did when I got mine out. They'll give you an IV and you'll be wheeled into the room, and they'll put you under, which only takes a few seconds. The next thing you know, you'll wake up and it will be over. My throat felt sore and I was a little sick to my stomach, but within half an hour I felt a lot better, and a week later I was back to normal.

It is kind of scary going in, but think of this as a great excuse to lounge around for a week and eat what you want! Pick out some books or magazines you've been wanting to read, or rent some movies you want to see. If you like video games, guilt trip your parents into picked up a new one for you to play while you recuperate. Trust me, the good will outweigh the bad here.

hi there, i had my tonsils out when i was 19 and its fine. The worst thing for me was that my then fiancees psycho ex girlfriend was actally the nurse lookng after me the day that i was admitted for the op,lol. Even she was fine though. The op is ok, you dont know anything about it once they give you the sleepy stuff and when you wake up your throat is of course really really sore and in truth maybe a bit bloody but its fine. You are right tho, no jelly and ice cream for you...i think the first thing i had to eat was toast and tea and then you'll get all your visitors and people making a fuss over you and its lovely, lol, best of luck with it and dont be afraid x

Good I've not ever nearly gotten married earlier than. My important worry of getting married is divorce. My worry of what might intent that's losing interest with my husband and dishonest. In my past longest relationship (almost 4 years), I was once identified to have a wandering eye. I am hoping that was once just considering I wasn't blissful with him though. I'm hoping if I find a man who i am blissful with I won't be looking else ware. Also the same thing on the other finish. I'm hoping the fellow would not become cheating on me, or hiding things from me. I simply desire a utterly honest relationship.

first dont be afriad!!!its one of the most simple operations done in hospitals.think positive....think that ur getting rid of all ur tonsils problems for good.
in hospital they only inject u once b4 the OR with the intravenous therapy.it doesnt hurt believe me.during the operation u will not even b awake.the bad part is when u wake up.u will feel the need to throw up and feel pain ans inability to talk..this is not to scare u..but to educate u about what u have to expect!!!
dont worry surly they will give you medication for pain control.u can eat a lot of fliuds and icecream.u can use paper and pen to communicate with ur family during the first day bec u cant speak..
actually its fun...to eat icecream s much as u want

Hi Bianca
had my tonsils out, don't be afraid. When I am at the dentist I (which I really get worried about) always practise deep breathing, imagine I am on a beach and count to 100.
Try the counting, deep breathing and the lovely beach when needles approach and think about a week on Tuesday, plan something nice to do then.
Hope this helps
Alicia

Don't sweat it. I had mine taken out when I was 10. The worst part about it is the anesthesia. If your lucky, though, it (the anesthesia) won't have a bad effect on you, i.e., groggy, motion sick, etc. Before the surgery keep your mind on other things, like what flavor ice cream you want when you get home. Oh, I don't care what anyone says, do NOT eat solid foods for a while after the surgery. It sucks and hurts. Like I said, think about ice cream, popsicles, yogurt, fugde bars, soup, etc. Think about what pj's you want to sleep in when you get home.

It's no big deal - a bit like having your toenails done.
Afterwards, you'll feel a bit groggy from the anaesthetic - but not as bad as after a night on the town, and you'll have a bit of a sore throat - but not as bad as the ones you have been having.
Opinions about what you should eat afterwards change. They stuffed me full of chocolate ice cream (but that was in 1951). Ask at the hospital. After a couple of weeks you can do what you like.

Hey hon, just try and take your mind off of it. Everything will turn out ok. Any kind of surgery isnt something to look forward to and I do understand what you are talking about. Read books, go for walks, talk to your friends and family. As for eating sandwiches afterwards I have never heard of anyone doing that after they have their tonsils out. I have heard of eating ice cream. I am sure your doctor knows what he is talking about though. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

About needles, a needle is just like when you fall over and scratch yourself, just it is in a focused area. It's nothingt o worry about, if you find that needles hurt ask the nurse or doctor to put some numbing salve on your arm first which will make it so that you don't feel the needle at all.
Also, at the assessment they will have done hundreds of other operatons so it's best if you follow their advice, they know what they are doing. They need to or they wouldn't get paid
