To throw my 2 cents in on the subject I'd like to turn the question around a little and answer from the perspective of a transwoman in that situation.
Using a public restroom is a tough choice. Mostly, I try to avoid public restrooms and hold it, which is unhealthy and can cause health problems. It's a tough choice when you're not entirely passable yet. If you want into the womens restroom, you could be thrown in jail, outed in the newspaper in the police report part, humiliated by the cops an a variety of ways, etc. At work people can get fired for using the women's restroom. Using the men's restroom is also dangerous. First, there's no cameras if something bad does happen. On top of that we're targets of violence by men anyways because we're trans or thought of as really gay men by the even more ignorant. Combine those two and you have rape, after beating, after murder. Take two steps in that door, and they could be your last. So, you stand outside the restrooms pondering which two use. One could lead to jail, humiliation, getting outed, raped, etc. The other option you could get beaten, raped, murdered, etc. In the end you decide to hold it, and hope the damage to your kidneys and bladder is less than the pain you would have recieved for picking the wrong door.
That's what it's like everytime a transsexual has to use a public restroom. Sometimes we pick the door matching our true gender and get away with nothing more than a few odd looks and raised eyebrows. Sometimes we pick the "safe" door, the one matching our physical sex, and we beat ourselves up mentally for chickening out and pretending to be this person we're not again. Sometimes we hold it, and hope we don't damage our body too much. Sometimes, unfortunately, we pick the wrong door...

There comes a point where the person undergoing a change must use the rest room assigned to the gender he or she is becoming. If someone behaves themselves properly in a restroom you are using too, don't harass them, no matter what gender they might look like to you. People should not have to put themselves out by not using the restroom when nature calls.

hmmm so if I say i am a woman I can then go into a womans restroom? If I put a dress on? how am I to prove i am not a pervert in drag. I will just scream discrimination and i will be left alone? It does not matter if you feel you are a woman you must actually be one to go into the womans restroom. Great now i will be told how intolerant I am.

If someone is a transsexual, pre-op or not, then that means they identify more closely with the members of the opposite sex. Therefore, if a man in drag uses the women's bathroom, it cretainly means that they're not going to get their jollies peeping at anyone. I would personally have no problem with some woman psychologically identifies as a man using the men's room.

Well....I might have a problem with it as a man, if I was standing at the urinal and a woman was next to me. Personally, I don't see the big deal if people are going into the stalls. Nobody can see you. Who gives a dang about the genitalia of the person in the stall next to you??? Really??? WHAT exactly IS the problem???? Someone should explain that to me, not just say it's wrong, or illegal, but WHY?!!??

Personally, it doesn’t bother me, but I’ve been lucky so far. I don’t use public restrooms if I can avoid it. I’ll normally find a “family” restroom, you know, the ones women take their little kids into. I think it is unfortunate these things are issues, but it is part of life and we have to adjust.

I mean does it really matter? They like you are in there to use the restroom. The ladies room has partitions in them. LOL if they squat like a female to use the restroom, and they respect your privacy and vice versa, what should it matter? Honestly !

I'm not against it. I've been to clubs that have sex-nutral toilets. Uni-sex ones that either or both can use at the same time. I think it's illegal in most places for a TV or lez to use the "dressed for" toilet. A man is still a man and a woman still a woman.
