Personally, I think that if a man asks a woman for a date he should be the one to pay. If a woman asks a man for a date then she should be the one to pay. Of course, all that can be cancelled out if they decide to go Dutch.

I know where you are coming from but I still pay but hope that a date will offer or pay for something like a drink later on or something. Don't forget that as a man you are trying to show how well you can provide for her. It is an instinct thing. Her offering to pay on the first time should be politely dismissed but on a third date if she has not at least offered to pay then she should have a good excuse. If she is a single mom then she should never be put in a position where she feels she should pay. If she is clearly more able, financially, then I say fair is fair, but never let the balance tilt to her paying more than you, unless she wants this.

I don't agree. Men should pay for dinner on a date. Otherwise you will end up being alone on a Saturday night. Why should a nice woman be spending the evening with you if she has to pay for it? She might as well be buying herself a nice pair of shoes or handbag than wasting her time with a bloke who can't afford or isn't nice enough or too cheap to buy her dinner and get to enjoy her company.

Ladies/dates are not that easy or cheap to come by.

Well it all depends on what type of relationship you are looking for. Dating is traditionally a hunting for a mate kind of thing and if you want a traditional relationship where she respects and nurtures you she will probably expect you to "provide" food a traditional role. The ladies who are my friends all give the same response to this. Men who don't pay every time they are financially able are men who treated them like dirt outside of the dinner arena. Men who always paid every time they were financially able tended to treat them great and they ended up marrying them. They are all very happy men! They all wanted that traditional male provider, woman nurturing support system kind of thing. It works out great.

On the average, women got paid less than men when that custom originated. The men were usually the person doing offering to take the other out to dine.
Perhaps there is more of a history to it, but that's how I see it.

Well, I have been told that the man should pay because it shows they are interested in you, if it is a date. That is instilled into women.

Personally, I will offer to pay no matter what. If the guy pays, I usually pay the tip. If we go out more than once, we usually alternate who pays.

What is wrong with you people, its just good gesture and being a gentleman to pay. If a woman asked you out on the date then you are not expected to pay anyway.

it would make no sense to ask you out and ask you to pay and vise versa.
