For every good and prospering and successful long term relationship one has to put in alot of efforts from all angle to make it work it out rite.Preparations of ups and downs,highs and lows,happiness and sorrows,warmness and coldness,near and distant etc etc has be confronted and to be tactfully be solved.

Yes. But also it depends on the people involved If you loved that person, but the person you love has another love ones it won't work. but if the both of you love each other the relationship will last forever until you die.
