I got Dish because it offered more HD channels (with the acquisition of VOOM). I connect my antenna to the receiver to capture local HD channels. Calls to customer support usually results in about a 5 minute hold. Adding/changing programs can be done through phone or online and changes takes place rather quickly. I would have to say that I am very satisfied with the service.
If you are interested in HD programming, go with Dish. If you want NFL Sunday Ticket, go with DirecTV. Otherwise, I don't see much price difference in the two. But I would stay away from cable because of their high rates. They will try to get you with a 3 or 6 month deal, but then the price go back up.

I got Dish Network a week ago (not bundled with AT&T, though), and am planning to cancel it today (thank goodness for 30-day money back guarantees, which you get if you--ironically--sign up for the 18-month commitment).
I got Dish Network because it appeared to offer the most HD programming for my new HD set. The problem is, the over-the-air channels look better on my rabbit ears, and the HD channels, while looking great (though a little soft compared to over-the-air HD channels) don't offer anything compelling. And most problematic of all, the standard-definition "cable" networks (MTV, Disney, Lifetime, et. al) look crummy and overcompressed (pixellation, "blockiness" of colors, and other digital artifacts). For the price, considering the amount of time I spend watching TV as opposed to watching DVD's (which isn't much), it just wasn't worth it.
I may consider DirecTV in the future, but they appear to cost more while offering fewer HD channels; if their standard non-broadcast channels are better-looking than Dish's, I may be won over, but somehow I'm not expecting it--there's only so much digital data that you can suck down that satellite dish. At this point, I'm more likely to try cable, especially if it comes bundled with internet.
