I am living in the Midwest where the cost of living is cheap. The wages are alright. I may have to move to the Sacramento area, however. I have family there that can help. But I don't want to sponge off of them. THey keep telling me that although it may cost more to live there than where I am at, there are opportunities there. My employment skills are: cashier, pharm tech, production/ assembler. This is all I know. So to me that would make my options for employment rather slim. And so I feel a bit discouraged when I think of considering the move. My family says that I am just making up excuses. I really do want to be closer to family and have their help if I need it. But I don't want to be stuck in a rut of not being able to make ends meet. Any information on these areas would be beneficial. Especially regarding cost of living and employment opprtunities. Thanks.

Sac. is only about 70 miles from the Bay area, one of the most expensive area to live in.
The problem with the wages in Sac. is that it pays Valley wages. For example, a cashier in San fran. can make 12 dollars an hour while the same job pays 8 dollars in Sac.
On the other hand, a 3 bed/2 bath. apartment in San Fran. is 1,600 a month, in Sac. its 800-900 a month.
Good Luck

The housing is expensive but compared with big cities in the state like SF, LA, and SD is relatively cheap. Other then that everything is at good price. Food is cheap (vegatables, bread, etc).

Citrus Height is pretty high priced, around 800k+ for house, Roseville is pretty expensive as well around the same price. I suggest West Sacramento.

The fact that your into pharm tech, I think you will be able to find a job in one of the hospitals like UC Davis Medical Center, or Sutter Medical Center.

As a matter of fact I live in the Sacramento area. Is a awesome place to live. A really quiet town by all means, plenty of fresh air coming from the San Francisco Bay Delta, great places to fish. Is the best place for anyone from other parts of the country who plan on moving to California to move here first and adjust themselves.

Sacramento is a lot like Kansas city, yet for a stable youthful couple such as you adult men, I propose Roseville. Its a becoming community and has been known in many magazines. Roseville additionally has low-cost housing and has low crime. there's a great activities complicated with a dogs park, and while u are waiting to have teenagers, Roseville is a great place to strengthen them.
