Shall we have a mutual sympathy for each others inabillity to refuse the multitude of alcoholic beverages we all consumed last night? And should we join forces in shooting down any insufferable numptys who insist on telling us the error of our ways?

Three hours sleep is just NOT enough to get by when I feel THIS rough...!

Do 'cheap drinks' include all the ones bought for me by other people, surely I cannot deride their kind natures by refusing such gifts (I didn't actually pay for a drink all night)...?

I used to be able to drink like a lord when I was still a Fauntleroy, but I suppose older people meant it when they looked at me with a mix of disgust and envy. It really does become harder to keep it all down, toilet runs become more frequent and hangovers last longer. There are only two solutions that I know of. The first is to become an alcoholic, and forget anything else you may have wanted to achieve in life - a near constant state of drunkenness more than makes up for it, or so they tell me. The second is to be smart with alcohol. Not to 'beat it' like reborn Christians do, that's plain scary and rather dumb. But if you can manage to gulp down half a glass of water with every 'unit' of alcohol, you're fine. I tend nowadays to get a drunken high without feeling sick at the same time, and though I try to sleep in the following day, I'm usually alright when I don't. Whoever said 'no cheap drinks' is right too though - I drink single malts or fine beers, and try to stick to one brand all night. When I mix alcohol, I will soon enough scream "I am going to die!" on my way home, and mutter "Is this hell?" when I wake up the next day.
Anyway, I seem to be in an elaborate state of sobriety today, and I have yet to answer your question! Though I don't have a hangover now, I do sympathise with your cause and anyone pointing fingers will soon wonder why they're pointing up their own airse.

Does your doctor know you use alcohol to take the edge off. This is not a good option and can make your social anxiety progress quicker. If your doctor knows that you self-medicate with alcohol, he is not going to prescribe you medications. You have a choice to either quit drinking and follow your doctor's recommendations. I know this for a fact. I used to be an alcoholic and am now clean and sober and have been for the last 12 years. When I was drinking it got to the point where I would not open my door to anyone, would not answer the phone and was afraid to go out in public. I hope your drinking has not gotten you to that point as of yet but it sounds as it has. You need to detox and seek out professional alcohol rehabilitation. There they will show you how to live life on life's terms on a daily basis without the use of alcohol. After being sober for a few months you will see the difference. If not than report this to your doctor and he may consider medication for you or counseling to help with your social anxiety.

yes.......and ........yes.
In UK we've got a cunning little hangover cure called Resolve.......speaking of which....I'll just go and get 1.
Ah that's better. It's a bit like liver salts with built in aspirin and something to combat dehydration. Fizzy, with a lemon flavour. They're very good.
