This is not Jesus speaking. It is the author speaking as "Wisdom". Everything that is said applies to Wisdom, not to Jesus. Read proverbs again with that in mind. That is why knowing the context is important.
Additional details: No, the author (Solomon) wasn't alive when God created the earth. The author is writing on behalf of Wisdom, as though he were Wisdom. It says that Wisdom was God's first creation. The poetry of wisdom, if you like. You're rather too literal... Besides, where in the Bible does Jesus actually speak to anyone other than the Father before His "being made flesh" in the New Testament?

8: 22 doesnt say Jesus You are reading modern christian view into the verse
Its a prose to WISDOM its self
but your better of reading Proverbs and Ecclesiastes than any other books in the bible. Seek after wisdom
"The fool learns nothing from the wise but the wise learns much from the fool" Marcus Aurelius
Jesus is a myth, become an atheist :)
EDIT 1
Yeah I read all the way to 36, its clearly talking about wisdom. Imagine yourself going back in time and writing those words or reading them. You wouldnt think of Jesus you would think of Wisdom because it says so. WISDOM, intelegence, truth.. the thing that Humans can seek after but animals cannot. Where would all things be without wisdom it is saying. All things have come about through wisdom.
The 'human writer' is not writing actuall history.
What you are doing now, asking questions, seeking truth. Its talking about that. Its wise and wonderfull to seek after truth, but death to those who dont. Keep asking the questions. :)

When I became a Christian, I also had this problem with Jesus being God, or vice-versa. After thorough study and research I now know that God created Jesus and that Jesus is the son of God. Read Colossians 3:1 - that is a sure proof that God is not Jesus, or vice-versa, and doesn't require further explanation. Go well, and God Bless!

Ok, let's look at Proverbs, 8:22.
First of all, God existed. Boink!
Now, when God was there first, Earth and the heavens hadn't been created yet.
Poofies.
The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works,
before his deeds of old
So Jesus was, in fact, his first great gift. Older than the earth.
Now, here's the twist.
Jesus, was reborn, as a man....human, in the form that we can accept and relate to him.
You all know it, as the story of Mary, Jesus, Joseph, and others, in the Gospels. So, he had the ability, to leave the Lord's side, to fufill his Father's promise.
And as well, besides performing miracles, he defeated death, and paid the price, for our sins.....and after his resurrection....he asended back into heaven, to be with his Father again.
Now, I won't label Jesus, as a God. But I believe, that he is part of the Trinity, and thus, has the ability, that God shares.

God is the word and the word is God and the word sent a Angel Gabriel to bring His word to Mary a Grand daughter of King David that the Word joined himself with her egg. "not sperm" Thus the word concieved himself in her and He became the Son of David and the Son of David is the Lord and the Lord is God. And Jesus is the expressed immage of the invisible God and He is a virgin but he is the Father of Creation and us all....

God from God
And God became a witness of God, a witness of all the God would create. God became the Word of God, that Gods word would live forever!

uh, cjunk has it right, person who posted this question. at the very beginning of the chapter it makes it clear that "wisdom and understanding" is describing itself.
EDIT
wow, just now going back and reading it, i realize how beautiful this chapter really is. i never noticed. this chapter really DOES inspire wisdom. i think the best line is "i walk in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice."

another translation is " the Lord posessed me at the beginning of His works" ....... another verse you might consider is in Genesis which also is mistranslated by one word...
"and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" .....
should be
"and the Word was with God, and the Word was (a) God...
they have always been together...before reality as we know it existed .. two seperate entities, but one in charge (the Father)..and the other ( the Word ) ..like a Son....
i have always tried to wrap my mind around it by thinking God made the plans... and by His power.. the Word made it happen ...

No, you are trying way too stressful. it rather is virtually like it rather is a game for some people. you're creating an hassle-free difficulty perplexing. do you like any scriptural evidence of who the daddy of misunderstanding is? the certainty is easy. Jesus is the 'first-born' of creation, in that he replaced into the 1st element created. this is it! Almighty God, a separate and diverse being from Jesus has continuously existed. So, while there replaced into purely one element, it replaced into almighty god. He has given himself the call Jehovah. Then on the beginning up of 'time' on the beginning up of creation and there replaced into 2 issues, it rather is with the aid of fact the 1st born of all creation replaced into made/created, and that replaced into Jesus. So Jesus lived factor with the help of factor with Jehovah, 2 diverse persons residing jointly. At this factor (purely) 2 issues existed. Then all different issues got here into life, tens of millions of spirit creatures (angels) first, then the actual universe which contains the earth and finally all life on it which contains people. All different issues have been created with the help of Jehovah via Jesus. All issues got here into life via Jesus, different than the apparent, Jesus did no longer create himself. So, no on your question, yet confident to the simplicity of the certainty. BTW: Your 2d scripture, Proverbs shows it needless to say... it rather is all you mandatory.. The LORD (ie Jehovah) delivered forth Jesus, (Jesus did no longer exist, after which he replaced into delivered forth (created), this replaced into carried out till now the earth and something of life. He replaced into created first, then all different issues have been created after him. And he even had a hand in becoming all different issues with the aid of fact the "grasp worker" to the astonishing-hand of Jehovah (the LORD). with the help of how, i don't comprehend the style you study issues? right here you quote a stable bible verse: Jesus is image of invisible GOD - John 8:fifty 8 confident, this is it certainly. he's a twin of God, no longer God himself. ? right here it rather is with the call restored to the text cloth as interior the unique bible writings: "Jehovah himself produced me with the aid of fact the beginning up of his way, the earliest of his achievements of a few time past. From time indefinite i replaced into put in, from the beginning up, from circumstances in the previous than the earth. ... then I got here to be beside him as a grasp worker, and that i got here to be the only he replaced into especially keen on on an well-known basis..." (Proverbs 8:22-31)

The Scripture does not say that Jesus was God's first creation.
Proverbs 8:22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
You can not understand because you have not asked God to Save you and fill you with the Holy Ghost. The Bible says that we can not understand without the Holy Ghost revealing the truth to us.
2 Peter 1:20 - Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
2 Peter 3:16 - As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
Again you have misquoted the Holy Scriptures. Here is the actual King James Version of Proverbs 8:30.
Proverbs 8:30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
Proverbs 8
1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? 2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. 3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors. 4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. 5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. 6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. 7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. 8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. 9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge. 10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. 11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. 12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. 13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. 14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength. 15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. 16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth. 17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. 18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. 19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. 20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: 21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures. 22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. 23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. 24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. 25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: 26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. 27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: 28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: 29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: 30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; 31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. 32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. 33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. 34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. 35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. 36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
Matthew 22:29 - Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Mark 12:24 - And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
John 5:39 - Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
