Well, Linda, there are probably many reasons why this occurs.
Society itself has let common courtesy fall to the wayside. The internet has opened up avenues of communication that allow people the falsehood of believing they can say whatever they want w/o regards to taking the heat for it.
They might do it merely because the got beat up in grade school a lot. Or they were not loved enough by their single mother’s working 2 jobs to put a roof over their heads. Or maybe they could never get a date to the prom, so now they can unleash their power of words to cause you (or other victim) discomfort and sadness, which in turn feeds their deranged belief that they have some power, or persona much more dominant than yours.

Personally I feel that this is the mindset of human beings, especially in certain countries of this world. They always feel that they are the best and whatever they do is definitely correct while others are imperfect and is wrong too. It is the nature of human beings telling others what they do is wrong but they are also doing the same thing, sometimes I find it very irony coz when mistakes is being made we should learn from it but we also do the same mistake as the one who make it.
No doubt nowadays people are getting rude. It is bcoz nowadays people are very self centred and everything they do, they always theink of "I" first and when they have such thinking they will never apologised even when they made mistakes coz they feel that by apologising to others, it is a lose of face so they rather made nasty statement. So I don't know if you have the same thinking as me

I once read you could divide people more or less into 4 temperaments : melancholic, sanguin, flegmatic and choleric. The last type looks a lot like the one you describe. The main characteristic of a choleric is : I am right. They make a perfect policeman in the middle of a chaotic crossroads, constantly exactly knowing which car to stop now - put a melancholic here and he/she would have so many internal conflicts and thinking about justness that he would be useless :)

Well, a lot of it has to do with perspective.
First off, if you touch on a subject that invokes a strong religious response, people tend to be a bit more devoted in their opinions. That's where to two way street on respect comes into play. For you to be respected, you have to respect their values as well.
Secondly, speaking from condemnation, it doesn't take a perfect person, to spot something wrong, a blind person can tell if there's a fire nearby, simply by smelling it.
A good pat bibilical point on this, is when Jesus makes mention, if you see a person in the wrong, rebuke him, and help him see the errors of his ways.
A lot of people, gays, for example, try to use the parable of the woman who was dragged by the pharisees before Jesus, and asked, Moses's law required us to put this woman to death for her actions.....Jesus simply started writing on the floor in the dust, and said, he who is without sin, cast the first stone.
Not a single person did.
Now, what the gays forget, is it doesn't stop there.
Afterwards, the woman approached Jesus, and the Lord said, where are your tormentors, woman?
Not one remains, my Lord.
Go then, and sin no more.
You may not like what people say, regarding being rude....but if the opinion is coming from God....why don't you take it up with him?

You, me, Ghandi...whoever, we are all hipocrites. I know it isn't a popular opinion but from my experience with people it is true. Unfortunately there isn't anything you can do about that. There is a generation of people out there with no sense of common desency and their moral compass is way off course. It could be because of the way they were brought up or it could be the natural cycle of things. I'm don't know. The only thing you can do is be the best person you can be. Do right by your family and friends.

Because some people don't like to think that others have differing opinions to them. Once they find out that not everyone agrees with them they become angry and full of contempt. Sometimes, people enjoy forcing their views and beliefs onto others, they think that they can change those who disagree with them. And some are just intolerant pigs!

It's natural to see the faults in everyone around you because it's much easier than seeing your own faults. Unfortunately, some people never learn that it's immature and pathetic, so they never grow out of it.
