Im a catholic and I love God. But I am very active in science. I do believe science in school influenced me to reject the belief of a higher being and sometimes i think about it too much that i start to cry. I don't really cry about my life i cry for my family/friends who will suffer when i die. Im really starting to believe that there is no god, but i do wish he exists because i think life is too complicated to just live and die. There is so many beautiful things out there that just share the same human characteristics and i find that interesting. I dont think we evolved to this point by just sitting for millions of years. I hate science because numbers are too big to put in context and thats what makes me think. The question i always get stuck on is if he made that, who made him (god)? And then who made him, and so on. I hate it but its always on my mind. I started going to church again because i am horrified of a world with no meaning; especially a world without heaven and god.

belief is a gift. Science works on believing in something because of the evidence presented. Can all the millions of people in the world be wrong about god or ....................................believe.
Ask yourself, what was before the big bang? The big ball? What was before that? You have to believe.

I too am catholic.don't go to church, yet want to.
All I do is work. All the time.
For 27 years.

I'm not married and my work has been my wife.
It is the afternoon shift.
I work every weekend.
It has drove me to drink and not take care of myself.
Now I want a " divorce ".

I am going to doctors regularly and am on a long journey
to get my health back.
It will happen eventually.

At the age of 50, whether I like it or not, I am faced with
getting another job, because I won't continue on the path
that I have been on.
I have missed a lot because I put my company first in all things and have never had a balance between life and work.

I can identify with your question because what you have expressed is what goes on with me.

I am telling you to emphasize spending time with your family
and your friends.
Surround yourself with people that love you and uplift you.
Make it the cornerstone of who you are.
I am blessed with a great family, and have some close friends.
Have a beatiful home.
Now the time has come to go to another level
and seek employment that will allow me to spend quality time with those that mean a lot to me.

Life is too short and the world we live in is the way it is.
Don't let events on the world stage dominate your life.
Remember God is watching from a distance.
Make your own little world and put joy in it.
because you only live once.

Good luck,

I have been in this situation and I think going back to church is not necessarily the right thing to do but since the arguments of the existing of God can go on and on without reaching satisfying answer, you may try to believe that you have a life to live and make the best of it whether God exist or not.

I was like you once, and sometimes when I really think about it, I feel dissapointed things are the way they are. Then I realize how magnificent and fortunate we are because we get to live. Think of all the other sperms you didn't let born. This quote always helped me:

"It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."
-Carl Sagan

...And also I remind myself that in the event that I am wrong, I will have something to look forward too, and if I wasn't wrong, aside from not being conscious to realize it, at least I knew the truth while I lived instead of never knowing it.

What you're feeling is normal - and healthy. Questioning your beliefs is not a bad thing, and whatever the result is - belief or non-belief, you will be a better person for embracing them and accepting truths about yourself.

The church will help you with one side of the argument. We non-believers here at Y!A will be happy to help you with the other side of the argument, and if you want to know why a world without a heaven or a god is not horrifying or meaningless but in fact one of great beauty and peace-of-mind, you can contact me anytime you want via my avatar.

Good luck wherever this 'crisis of faith' takes you. You may lose faith in God, you may lose faith in science, but as long as you keep having faith in yourself, you'll be okay in the end.

You can choose to believe in the tenants of the Catholic church, and that God has always been and always will be (thus, he has ALWAYS existed, and nothing/no one made him). Or, you can choose to believe in a world without heaven and god. In my own personal humble opinion, where you are confused is assuming that a world without heaven or god is a world with no meaning. My world has a lot of meaning and I don't believe that it can be proven that there is a god, although I don't believe that it can be proven that there is not one either.

I'll bet that you're about 17-20 old. I'm saying it because i'm now19 and I was in the same position two years ago.And I know what it feels like. I had seriouse doubts about god and everything. And I had thousends of questions begining with why?,How? Now I'm studing psychology and I think this is what helped me. Now I can understand why human beings created god and e.t. All i can advise you is just not to be afraid of discovering that we created god and heaven. You'll get adjusted believe me if you just understand how it all happened. The fact that in every country, in every culture people believe in supreme powers, although in different ways, is very important. To have hope and beliefe is unseparatable part of all human beings. I know you think that life has no meaning without god and life after death, but don't forget that we don't know and don't understand some things, we only use 2% of our brain power.. We think we can understand everything but we forget that we explain everything in words that we created on our own to contact to each other. And we have no guarantee that this words can axplain events that we try to explain. How do we know that we're not trying to tell the story using numbers in spite of words. Well you know that dogs see only in black and white, and how do we know that we're not in the same position and cannot see some things. It's all very complicated and it's not easy to understand everything altogether, maybe you should read something in psychology.
After everything i said i must say that god exists but the question is god created us or we created him to make our lives more kind, organized and just to avoid the chaos? As the time passes I more and more believe that god is really necessary. When i say that god exists i mean that god is love, hope and everything good in this world, and god containing this components really rules our world and makes us see miracles, and that can be explained in terms of science. We posses powers that we don't understand, and I think someday we definetly will. Don't think that life has no meaning just because we can't see it without god. Just try to live only to make others smile cos' it will make you feel right. And don't try to ensure believers that god doesn't exist. Let god be the reason for them to live(you can live just like them if you want, but in your case it means lying to yourself). You can find your reason to live, your way of understanding the meaning of life. I'm sure you will, just observe and don't be afraid of truth.

Maybe you need to visit a different God believing
church. There are Methodist, Baptist, and many
others. Make certain they believe Jesus is the Son
of God, follow His teaching about God, and your life
here with your fellow man.
Read the Bible, and Pray.
I read the King James Bible, and ILumina= Benny Hinns
computer Bible.
Faith comes by hearing, and
hearing, by the Word of God.
First I would read Genesis. Written by God using the
hand of Moses. Moses spent alot of time with God.
Then I would read Matthews, restudy about Jesus.
Then go back to Exodus.
Don't be afraid, or ashamed to ask people to pray
for you.
I just did.

Actually, god either exists or he doesn't. And your going to church is not going to change that. I mean, if he doesn't, he still doesn't if you go to church. If he does exist, he will still exist if you don't go to church. So whatever you do, won't change reality.

Now that you know your attitude won't change the world (not in this respect) go on being yourself. If science has taught you that there can't be a god, it's a very un-scientific attitude to deny it, and lock yourself up in church again. You had made progress. Don't spoil it for you.
