Hosea. He was told to marry Gomer, who was a prostitute. Gomer symbolized the people of Israel while Hosea symbolized God. The Israelites (and us today) kept prostituting themselves by worshipping other gods, but God loved (and still loves) them (and us) enough to keep taking them back and calling them His own.

I don't think there is any significance whatsoever. Unless you are already quite religious and attribute a meaning to it which might not even be justified.

HOSEA WAS MARRIED TO THE PROSTITUTE AS A SYMBOL OF ISRAEL'S LOVE OF IDOLITRY. HOSEA WOULD GO AND TEND TO HIS WIFE AND LOVED HER EVEN THOUGH SHE DID NOT DESERVE THIS AS GOD ALSO LOVED ISRAEL AND WOULD SOOTHE HER WOUNDS FROM SUCH A MISEARABLE LIFE.
