depends on the person LOL and how much of the truth they would be able to take. If it looks ridiculous and I know they just want the truth, honestly, I'd make them laugh with the truth. If I'm worried about them taking it personally, I'd say it hesitantly, but I'd still tell them the truth. And honestly, since I am a girl (even though I've never asked ANYONE that question LOL), if I WERE to ask that, I'd want the honest-to-god truth, with some humor thrown in LOL

It depends who the person is, how well I know them, and how comfortable I am with them. If its someone I just met, I normally would lie or advise them to try something else on. If its someone I've known a long time I tell them the truth but I am nice about it. If its my girlfriend I would tell her a*s always looks great, because it does.

On balance the truth is preferable to a lie. Thankfully though the question should not be interpreted as requiring a black/white answer.
That should give the necessary room to manoeuvre.
Sometimes the truth has a very high price tag and its not always desirable to buy into it.

It depends on if she is looking to buy the clothes or has already bought them. Be honest if she is shopping, she needs to know the truth and can blame the clothes for being poorly designed. After she buys them you need to lie because she'll be hurt and think she screwed up a purchase (since they make such a big deal about shopping).

If you tell the truth, there's an argument. If you lie, there's an argument about why couldn't you tell the truth. Best way is to try and evade the question and change the subject. Best way in the end.

Lie Lie Lie.
The times I've told people the truth they've been really angry with me. Even though I've been as tactful as I possibly can and just hinted that perhaps a different cut/longer jacket may enhance her look etc. One female friend even screamed at me that 'YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO SAY THAT!"
Lie, lie & lie again. Always.

there's no substitute for telling the truth. believe it or not the person who asked will always know whether you're telling the truth or you're lying to make her/him feel better.
you have to be truthful at all times regardless what the other person feels. if your reply would be negative for the personn better warn her/him that he/she may not like your response and ask her/him also if he/she is ready to listen to what you have to say. this is a very simple thing to do. we're only trying to complicate things when we tell lies to other people just for them to feel better.
if you were in the sitaution of that person, would you rather be lied to for you to feel better or would you rather want the truth?
more often than not people ask questions or your opinions because they want to know the truth and not the lies that you have to tell them.

Depends on how well or long you have known the person, but in general, the truth is always best and its recommended to show a little compassion, eg: recommend something that makes her rump look sexier.
