I mean some people worship animals, buddas, and or saints. Why does it have to be seen for one to believe. Can't people just believe the word as it is written?

No, it is hard to believe. Atleast for me it is. I am just now starting to go to church. I am trying to have faith in god, i really am. OK but here are my reasons for having a difficult time believeing in him.

1.) Can't see hear or feel him
2.) The "miracles" he performed in the bible are in one word....AMAZING.......not only those, but its hard to believe some...supernatural being created all we see before us......I mean all our lives we are taught NOT to believe in the supernatural and crazy stories like that...
3.) With so many bad things going wrong in the world and so many answers and so many differnt religions.how can we know which way is up?......anyone agree?

It's hard for some people to believe in god for the same reason why it's hard for some people to NOT believe in god. People just have a different world view. Everyone believes in what they think is the truth and they simply don't all believe the same. Some believe everything that is written in "the holy book", some people look around searching for other proof and when they don't find any, they don't believe.

First of all, written by who? God? I've never seen a Bible saying it was authored by God. Maybe I oughta sell joke bibles saying that!

But anyways, "the word as it is written." So all of a sudden I'm supposed to believe in something just because it says to? That's retarded? I wan't more than just words. I want facts supported by evidence! THE BURDEN OF PROOF LIES WITH THE JURY!!! I'm not gonna vote guilty just because everyone assumes the suspect did it. I want hardcore evidence proving it! Damn, that was a good metaphor!

No, I can't believe the world as it is written in the Bible. There is no reason whatsoever why I should take the Bible seriously. It's a piece of writing without any independent back-up proof, so for all I know, it's got no more evidential value than this morning's newspaper.

Some can, some say they can or do, and some do not. I have a hard time with most religions yet I believe in God. Religions have been responsible for so many wars, killings, etc. Too many people willing to exploit others religious feelings.

Alfred Einstein believed in a God. Not necessarily the Christian or Jewish God, but A God.

If an intelligent man of that caliber believes in a higher being, then surely believing in a God is not a result of being unintelligent or stupid...

I also agree with what the user above me posted.

No, I'm afraid most/some will not just believe the word as it is written because who says that is "the word?" Christians? Why are Christians the right ones? What about all the other religions, especially those that existed before Christianity?

when you see the amount of war, death, desease, evilness and poverty, in the world, is it any wonder that people have a hard time believing.

then when you have to watch a 22yr girl who had her whole life ahead of her, never had a bad word to say about anyone, did not have a bad bone in her body and could never even hurt a fly, die from an extremely rare and very painfull illness for which there is no cure, it makes you think, if there was a god then why would he allow this to happen if he is suposed to be so good and right.

You're assuming everyone reads from the same book. Alot of it is because of culture and what people were raised to believe. Not everyone reads from the King James, NIV or other Bible. Having lived with an agnostic who grew up in the Bible belt and an atheist who later turned to Catholism... some people just won't believe.

People will begin to believe in God when they come to a place in their lives that they really need Him. Those who base their decision on how imperfect people represent God are looking in the wrong direction. God knows each one of us. He knows what and why each person accepts or rejects Him. God is good and cares about each one of us. Some people try to figure God out, that is not faith. Faith is believing without seeing. One thing that helps me is to pray "Lord I choose to trust You. I may not understand what is going on or why things happen the way they do. But, I want to believe so I make my choice today to trust in You."
