I'm having a problem with the ice maker my freezer. It's always worked fine until now, but lately it won't freeze the ice. The ice turns to water once it's dropped. I've turned the temperature up in the freezer and it's still doing it. The ice just completely melts to water, and I have no clue what to do. Help please!

The fridge/freezer works like an air conditioner.

I have a thermostat I bought to check fridge(40 degree F) which I simply leave in the fridge.

Does your fridge have milk going bad(trying to get weapons etc).
Then your temp too high!

Five dollars will get you a lovely thermostat that will last longer than that one appliance.

A fuller fridge works better than an empty one(heat sink- or in this case cold mass more steady than simply air. BUT NOT overstuffed as the air must circulate throughout inside fridge/freezer freely.
Place empty plastic bottles partially filled in both compartments to 'fill' empty space and provide energy savings.

Air must also circulate around OUTSIDE of fridge. There should be several 'clear' inches around sides/ top/ rear for proper operation. Any cosmetic covers should be clear of dust and grime.

Check door seals... kids hanging on door has caused problems...
a magnetic seal(clean!) should be around entire door and when closed no gaps etc.

It is possible that the defrost is not working or the fridge's thermostat is shaky... and everything works fine for a while until the temp climbs... motor runs continually... but a block of ice has surrounded where the heat transfer is to take place(that's the air getting to those coils(if external they need to be clean as well)).

Unplug or switch off... allow ice block to melt... floors will get a bit of water- more than expected.. even if ice not seen... Replug or turn on(say after 24 hours) and fridge cools and ice stays... until the ice block rebuilds...

The last would be if nothing gets cold ever... AND that would definitely be repairman or new fridge time!

The ice maker's not the problem. The frig. isn't cooling correctly which could be caused by several things. Check to see if the condensing coils are clean. They're under or behind. If that doesn't fix the problem then you really need to call a repair person.

in the experience that your ice maker is the form that has some thing like a tendency coat hanger putting over the ice bin, is it interior the UP place? this is the close-off place and your ice maker might turn itself off. basically twist it clockwise and it is going to drop down and your dispenser could paintings.

could be defrosting to much, are there any spots that feel warm in there? Also be aware that all the cool air in the fridge part comes from the cold air in the freezer part, by way of air circulated by a fan.

First check if the water shutoff valve is not partially open.
Check if freezer temp is below -15 degree
Check if freezer fan is running.

Put a thermometer in the freezer. It should read 0 deg F. and your fridge should read between 35 & 45 deg F.If not then you have bigger problems than the icemaker(could be door seal/hot room/bad compressor/ etc)
