Because they are evil and under Satan's control. Of course, it could be the result of someone telling the what to believe instead of them thinking for themselves.

I am a Christian and I agree with you. It is very confusing.
A few points to consider.
1. There are different spiritual levels. As I have grown, I have come to understand things better and have perfected my understandings/teachings. Many people on here are still young kids with a lot of zeal, but no understanding/knowledge.
I was wrong about a lot of things early on in my walk.
2. There are bad apples in the church. Christ Himself said there would be weeds growing with the wheat. He also said you should learn to judge people by their actions, not their words. So, there are people calling themselves Christian when they are far from it. (This is according to Jesus Himself)
3. I thank God He doesn't count ignorance against us. He judges people by sincerity of their hearts. He doesn't look for a perfect doctrine, but a pure heart. No one would be able to make it into heaven if we had to be 100% right on all of our beliefs.
But, don't let that fool you into thinking you don't have to try to serve Christ. Just being a "good person" isn't enough. You must have a heart to serve God.

The point isn't to be sure of other people. It's to be sure of what God says. Each person must work out his own salvation. You'll never understand what Christians are saying to you anyway if you're not willing to listen to them with an open mind. What's the point in challenging people that you don't plan on listening to? If you were serious about trying to understand Christianity, you'd do your own homework and read the Bible for yourself.

People disagree generally, not just Christians. As The Bible did not come with crib notes, there's room for interpretation. Sometimes people exploit the grey areas for their own ends.
Any soul, poor or otherwise, can go direct to the source via prayer - if you want to know what's right, He will tell you. It sounds too easy, right?

The "Who" that you should listen to is God Himself. Christians are all imperfect people who make mistakes. Just like everyone else, we sometimes have it wrong, even though we usually have it right.
As for being "exempt from Hell", no. The Bible says that everyone knows God through His creation. So, everyone can and needs to make a decision for themselves.
You, however, have obviously heard about Jesus. Have you made your decision yet?

It's too complex and personal for everybody to agree with each other. I try to stay away from large groups of people who all claim to agree with each other on everything. That leads me to believe that most of the people in that group aren't really thinking and are just nodding their heads at everything they are told.
