Are you familiar with the term "cognitive dissonance?" It is the discomfort a person feels when they are trying to accept two contradictory things. The classic cognitive dissonance is between science and religion. If religion teaches that you will go to hell for believing what science tells you is true, you are faced with denying your own reasoning or denying your religion. But in denying your religion, you are told, you set yourself up for an eternity of punishment. Naturally, a person can get a bit neurotic dealing with this kind of dilemma.
Here's how I solve it: I say any God who created my brain must want me to use it. A loving God would not want me to be faced with such a mental and emotional discomfort. Therefore, any God worth worshiping does not agree that I must believe what I cannot believe in order to avoid a punishment more horrible than anything I could possibly deserve, even for real crimes.
I therefore choose facts over dogma.

helzabet,
"Why do some people have so much faith in their denial?"
Which definition? There are so many.
"They deny scientific evidence."
Which "scientific evidence?"
"They deny evolution."
If they deny Evolution, which has no proof, do they have a point?
"They deny logical reasoning."
That reasoning that is logical according to . . . .who?

Do you deny that Zeus exists? Are you certain that Quetzalcoatl was just mythology? Do you believe that Anubis was the result of a bunch of desert-dwellers who needed an explanation for death?
Well, I just deny the existence of one more god than you do.

Denial is the security blanket for weak people , because they dont like to change or more like afraid of change , afraid of experiencing something new , so they become dependent on lies and they hate to face the fact that they were wrong in giving so much faith in something that is so wrong .

Because its better not to believe in something unproven than to believe in something with so many holes, contradictions, and barbarism like the bible, koran, etc.

It is called fear of reality. In that way they won't feel accountable or responsible. They like to live in their cocoon all their lives and never wanting to come out and be the butterfly.
