Well, I would agree to say that India being a vast country and open country, anything can happen to anyone at any time. Safety aspects still have to be taken more seriously and to be implemented also. Police have to stop corruption, well some are doing it and hence spoil the reputation of the entire police force, then abusing women who go to police station, this also have to be stopped. Police force themselves have to get a revamp themselves. Then, the politicians, they have to change, they have to make sure the funds are all used to the respective projects and all accounts displayed to the public, things should be transparent. The politician's salary structure all should be made known to the common man. Once all the evil sectors of the Indian society changes, or improves then it would be better. Bollywood got links with the Mumbai underworld, so how come we can say they are perfect? Nobody is perfect, its just that their behaviour, some times those kinda behaviour is needed to grab attention, like its happening in the west. Maybe these things could be arranged ones or just to make headlines you know. Today's common women are really innocent and pity, those who seem to know everything, act smart are all spoilt. I mean, you know mostly they tend to behave naughty. Well, I would say women not only should have beauty and the oomph to show off, but also should have the brains. Good character should be portrayed from the film fraternities to the outside world as millions of people are film crazy in India. If they set a bad example, then what would be the future of India ? Because today's youth are tommorow's leaders.

Many of the Indian actresses (not all) are becoming too westernized and forgetting the high values of an Indian woman's decency. I'm all for equality between the sexes. The Atman in me is the same as the Atman in a man. The external body is made up of five elements. It goes back to the earth. Men and women are both equally God's children. Women have been subjugated for so long. Now that we are more liberal, some women just want to do what they want and get away with it. It's ironic that women want more respect from men but yet, don't respect themselves. When a woman goes on screen and portrays herself as a half naked bimbo, she is selling herself as a sex object. Our generation of women should grow up our sons differently. Show them that they shouldn't stereotype. Let them know that men should learn to cook too (it's necessary for survival) and that women need to be educated and career oriented also. Women, don't let your sons look at pornography. It's the cause of rapes and a lot of degredation against women. Women and men are both to blame. Women should have more self-respect and men should look at other women as someone's else's daughter, sister, mother or wife.

Mahak, your question is a bit confused yaar.
Your title question is, "Do women in cities feel themselves secure?"
But your explanation of the question seems to be asking "Why do women have to be glamorous in order to show themselves modern?"
I understand that you are venting your anger a lot of issues together. Why do women in India feel theselves unsafe? Why those who are safe, and educated, and hip, have to show off in order to remain modern? etc. Right?
Look, women are not safe anywhere to start with. There is violence against women everywhere. Somewhere it gets reported and gets a lot of media coverage, somewhere it doesn't. But that does not justify this violence of course. Guess we need to bring more of gender based education in people everywhere. And we need to change women's perspective towards men and towards themselves.
And that's where your second question kicks in. Women need to understand that they really are not the objects of show in society. Look, yes I agree that men play foul to women a lot of times. But you need to agree that women are equally responsible for their own plight. A woman does not need to show off a lot of skin, arouse a lot of people consciously, then simply say that she was being modern. And this is exactly what you are saying too. So I agree with you.
There is nothing morally wrong in women showing off their success, or their glamour, or their money. If Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan can, why can't women of bollywood show off. But it really is a matter of being careful while showing off. Women should take care that they do not invite undue attention.
Sigh, although there is no thermometer to decide how much of what activity will evoke what response from whom. Hmmmm....it's complicated.

I admire the fact that Rakhi Sawant speaks up about women's rights, but there is a big difference between freedom and whoredom. have you seen her latest videos. My husband and i were shocked to see just how far she went. We joked that she must not be so rich because she can't even afford to buy an entire skirt or shirt.
