Each of the Space Shuttle Orbiters has three Shuttle Main Engines on the rear of the shuttle that are used during liftoff. They also have two Orbital Maneuvering Systems which are also on the rear of the shuttle and are used for large maneuvers while in orbit such as orbit changes and de-orbiting.

There are number of much smaller engines that make up the reaction control system (RCS) which is used to make fine adjustments such as when approaching the International Space Station or to maintain a certain orbital position. They are distributed in clusters around the nose and tail of the Orbiter. There are a total of 44 nozzles for the RCS.

If you add all these together, you get a total of 49 engines of varying sizes from huge (you can stand in the bell of a Main Engine) to tiny (the smallest of the RCS nozzles is only a couple of inches across).

For the record, Atlantis was the shuttle that went up on September 9th.

The shuttle has 2 solid rocket boosters (which are the parts that fall off shortly after launch). There are 3 engines on the shuttle itself.

One is an area plane the different is a pill. The holiday can ferry approximately 8 human beings max and the pill basically 3 human beings. this is often excepted that the area holiday is technically extra stepped forward and is able to ferry a larger volume of equipment into area and likewise waiting to convey it lower back lower back if required.
