If humanity is to win, then yes.
Taiwan is actually already independent.
(Recent additions)
Taiwan has it's own constitution.
Taiwan has a different name (ROC, not PRC)
Taiwan has free elections and its own fully functioning government and military.
They have their own currency.
China has no direct control over Taiwan's affairs.
Taiwan has free speech and a just legal system.
Just go to Taiwan and you'll see that they function just like any other sovereign nation.
Anyone who says Taiwan is not an independent country is just throwing political lies.
It is a fact. Taiwan is a separate country. Even if China or anyone else claims otherwise, it doesn't make it a fact. REALITY folks, not political hyperbole. Canada functions more like it is part of the U.S. than Taiwan of China. And Canada's definitely an independent country.
BTW--those "losers" (the KMT) who left China and came to Taiwan (and were as murderous and corrupt as the communists), they are only a small part of the population. They really don't have much right to declare Taiwan is part of China. Taiwan was only part of China from 1890 to 1895. Can these please leave the Taiwanese alone? Thanks!

If Taiwan is looking forward to a "civil war" with China in the next 3 years and thinking that USA or Japan would come to their help instantly, then they could declare
"independance". If not, they should keep the present status quo. "When elephant makes love the grass suffered".

No because it'll just cause way too much conflict. China won't let Taiwan go so there will most likely be a war.
I don't get why so many provinces of China want independence. I once met a guy and asked me what nationality I thought he was. I said Chinese and he said, no, I'm from Tibet. China should make a law like America's that states no states/provinces can become its own nation.

No. That would be pretty stupid because China would have to take action against Taiwan. By that time China will probably have even more economic and political power anyway, and it would be against Taiwan's own economic interests to do so. If Taiwan leaders were smarter [than Chen Shui-Bien] they would strike a deal with China while they still have bargaining power.

I like that to happen. And might as well declare China as part of Taiwan. That would be cool right? China is now Taiwan's province, hehehe. I heard, there are 800 missiles zero-in to all major city of taiwan as of this moment. I believe, once the taiwanese goverment declared their independece, we will be witnessing a barrage of fireworks display in CNN and I assure you, these fireworks would not be chinese fire crackers, it would be more like a chinese version of Scud Missiles.

im pretty sure they are already independant of main land china...the thing is, as i understand it....
taiwans government used to be the legitimate government of china (taiwan and mainland china) the current government of china, the communist one, had a revolution and kicked the taiwanese goverment out of mainland china. both governments claim they are the rightful government of taiwan and mainland china...
