The greatest strength of the country India(includin India and Pakistan)was it was culturally really strong and was having a mix of many cultures in a single place but still lived in mutual harmony.

To overpower such a strong nation and rule it some cheap tricks had to be used.

This was the trick of divide and rule.Even though most ppl didnt want a partition the ppl who decided the things were not tat brilliant.

Ghandhiji never wanted partition but he cudnt help it cos Jinnah was able 2 convince a majority of ppl tat Muslims were not goin 2 be safe in a Hindu country.

But this was just a myth.

If Jinnah had shown faith in the Newly independant india tat would be goin on secular lines all this India -Pak problems wud have been non existant.

But history goes like this only.Sometimes some decisions supposedly 2 be taken for the good of ppl turn around. The division of the country was 2 bring communal harmony. But tat goal still reamins unachieved and we have fallen into the dirty trick played by the british for thier good.

PAKISTAN AND INDIA can still be friends, cos they both are finally brothers. Stop hating each other. Once the ppl on the other side of the border was also called as our own. Now wat happened all of a sudden to everyone. Why we hate each other?

Its not time 2 calculate who did the wrong. Just cherish the moments when we were together and how successful we were those days. Lets go bak to those days.

For 5000 years the Indian subcontinent has not been at peace and operated a more feudal system of disparate regions rather than one unified country, it was the British for ease of governance that th country of 'India' was formed so it is hardly surprising it fell apart after it got self determination.

The real surprise is that it has stayed in such large peaces.

The whole region is divided into countries that are in reality artificial, this includes the middle east, and it is the old colonial rulers that created this, and as the large countries in the region didn't develop more organically, ie driven by the people of the region rather than from outside, we now see them falling apart, just like old Yugoslavia.

So India and Pakistan have done well to stay so relatively intacked for the last 50 years, though I doubt they will over the next 50.

Economical aggression is the reason. British East India Company came in India to do business. When the local resisted them, gradually they took over the political power and ruled and did business.

To rule a colony far away from their main land they took several ethical and unethical measures with the help of local collaborator. And this policy is being implementing all over the Earth now. At that time British did it, cause they were sole owner of the Globe then, The Sun never set in the British emperor that time. Now other nation is being doing business in the Middle East, Africa and where not and obviously with the help of local collaborator.

Fully agree with 'carmellavella' about 'Divide and rule'. When the British officers found that India could not be ruled directly they decided on the 'divide and rule' policy.
This 'divide' created by the creation of Pakistan has been a thorn in the side of India ever since. Millions are spent by each on armaments each year. Who is the chief supplier of these arms to India and Pakistan? Why do you think USA (having a 'special' relationship with UK) supports Pakistan to the tune of millions of dollars every year?
India is having to spend millions on defending its borders against terrorists who have been in existence much before the West got hit by them.
If these millions are spent on infrastructure, food distribution and health both these countries would not be in the state they are in now.
Thank God there is a glimmer of awakening, in India to all this. Vande Matram.

i don't know what others tell you .
but before independence during the time when poets were writing patriotic texts a poet named Iqbal in his poem
wrote about India as "Pakistan" which means holy land .
then the great mohammed ali jinnah was poisoned by the british that if they stayed in India they would not get any rights .
hence he along with others asked for the separation of India into Hindustan and Pakistan. hence the people responsible are nehru jinnah and the english or "gorechamdis"

The truth, British rule in India. There have always been a variety of faiths in India, during British occupation in India a rift formed between the country, when you split up a country based on religion color whatever it is easier to take over. Since then not only has there been a rift in religion but also has been bias formed off of the basis of complexion. In some families in India lighter or whiter is better. These things did not exist in this context before British rule.

Yes...It was the policy of the British at that time to divide and rule.If you divided the peoples of the country you made them weaker and then you could take over their country and rule. It has happened in other countries that the British ruled also like Cyprus the Turks and the Greeks lived peacefully side by side for years before the British were there.. The Sindhis lost the whole of Sindh to Pakistan and now the Sindhi Hindus are a disporic race with no homeland to call their own. As you know your own history you know that India was always a Hindu land (that is how it got its name ...from the name of the River Indus and the Indus Valley )until the invasions by Moslems from the north. Even now, unfortunately, though Sindh belongs to Sindhis it has been taken over by PUNJABI moslems. Is that fair? Shouldn't Sindh be returned to the Sindhis? The whole of Sindh has deteriorated under their rule. The cleanliness and beauty ofSindh is no longer there and this is a shame because it was a beautiful place even under the British rule. Unfortunatley as in many religions there are fanatics in Islam that spoil its name and resort to violence. The peoples of India and Pakistan are one and the same race. They are able to live peacefully in India together and when a Moslem is asked why he did not go to Pakistan when it was created the answer is mostly "Because I was born here and I consider myself to be an Indian". Many Moslems think that the moslems in India are badly treated. They are not. If that was so would there be a Moslem President? There are special rights for minorities in India and all the Moslems that I know in Bombay (now Mumbai) are treated with the same respect as any Hindu or Christian or Buddhist. Many are very rich and have beautiful homes. Wars are caused mostly for personal egotism and religion is often an excuse.Unfortunately many people have to suffer as did all the Hindus from Punjab and Sindh during partition. Many greedy people left India to go to Pakistan to grab property and land belonging to the Hindus. They are probably the same people causing problems there now. Recently...earlier in the year...many Hindus went to Pakistan to see the homes they left behind. they were disappointed at the state of the homes they once owned but were very welcomed, as you will know, by the sindhi moslems in sindh and who wanted them to return to Sindh. Of course, this is impossible now because they are all well settled abroad and are probably the same age as the questioner so would not want to start afresh. Partition is to be regretted because it certainly didnt turn out to be to Pakistan's advantage. India would have been a much stronger country had Punjab and Sindh remained with her but there are always greedy politicians grasping for power who think only of themselves and not for the welfare of the majority of people in the country. It would be fantastic if the two countries would get together and unite their peoples and thoughts.

They were tired of moslem trouble makers making trouble claiming to be a religion of peace but causing trouble everywhere they went, much like the so-called "Palestinians" today who, before needing to get their butts kicked out of Gaza and the West Bank, got their butts kicked out of Jordan, Syria, Lebannon and wherever else they've been...

"Religion of peace", yeahRITE!

Pakistan is a good example of what happens when you give Moslems control. Remember how Pakistan had an EAST and WEST part? What happened to EAST Pakistan?

Plus, how come there are parts of Pakistan where the people will not subjugate themselves to the legitimate government of Pakistan?

Any country that lets Islam rule (Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iran, to name a few) gets & gives nothing but trouble as a result.

The slight problem was that in spite of well meaning efforts of both the Hindu & Muslim leaders, the people could not live togther, as was shown when as soon as the British left, they started massacring each other in India.
