This is wrong to say that the girls in India MARRIES. They does not marry, they are married, at least most of them.
There are several factors:
1. Although presently Indian girls are given more and more opportunity to be self dependent, by education and financially. But most of the girls are still under restrictions. The parents always think that there should be a husband who can guide her too. like a guardian. So, he should be older than the girl.
2. From the point of view of Groom's family also they want an obeying girl who will manipulate herself according to the groom's family. Having an younger girl will ensure that also.
3. The man also wants to dominate his wife in every respect, if not sexually, then psychologically, by being older. Like the senior.
4. Another factor is girls always seem to feel an attraction towards the wiser person, generally its the person who have more experience.
But this situation is rapidly changing. It will take time to alter the whole scenario.

One is for the money (the girl gets when he croaks).
Two is for the youthfulness the man gets. A young wife keeps him young. Look at Hugh Hefner, now in his 80's with three (3!) live-in girlfriends--21, 26, and 32. (it used to be 7 live-in girlfriends, but they fought too much so he downsized)...If you want to remain young, learn to enjoy what young people enjoy. Nothing ages you faster than a boring, old wife; you may as well be dead.
Sexually, there's no reason an old man can't satisfy a young girl. He may not be as vigorous as a young man, but he's more experienced. Psychologically, there may be some limitations due to different life experiences, but two people can be compatible regardless of age. If both like to read or do research, then there should be no problem. If one likes to stay home and the other one likes to party all night, well that may cause problems depending on the people involved.

I am unaware of specific Soth customs. However, a frequent reason is money. An older man purchases a younger girl for reasons of increased sexual excitement.
As the man grows still older, his sexual interest declines even as the young lady's peaks.
The dynamics of psychological aging are affected, but the women of India are so repressed, little is done to assist.

I think you need to research things very carefully. The culture is the main thing. How to act and not offend or embarrass your new family, even if accidentally. It's hard to fix. Your status as a human being will change, can you cope with that? If you change your mind and can't live there, what are the options? If you are severely unhappy, will you be able to go home? Will your family have any say in your life, or will it all come down to his family and their wishes? Will you be allowed to culturally educate your children on German issues, or will they have to be totally Indian? Will you be allowed to work? Can you cope with a large, extended family, in which there is a defined hierarchy? Can you be the perfect wife/mother/sister? Can you deal with your husband having total freedom, whilst you have to answer for every thought and action? I wish you well, and much happiness. However, it is not just where you are going to live, but HOW, you are going to be required to live. The very person you are will have to change. It is true of any cultural change, not just Indian. I'm from Europe and have Indian relatives. They are very westernized, but they themselves point out these differences in culture. The status of females is just not the same. Good luck hon, make a good choice.

they are usually arranged marriages. My husband is from Pakistan, which is basically another India except they have mosques and the call to prayer. We have a love marriage which is very rare, but 99 percent of the girls can't marry out of love. If they do and don't accept the parent's choice, they are ostracized. The girls there are also financial exchanges. Even unborn girls are. If a member of a family somehow wrongs somebody, the first girl born is given to that person they wronged to do with as they please. Women are only a commodity there. They are nothing in society.

In the traditional Indian culture, the parents choose who they think is best for their daughter to marry. Usually the male is older and is able to support himself and a family.
The daughters family pay a dowry which is usually in the form of money, land, or something else that they agree to use as payment to the man.
The marriage is then arranged. All the while, the young has no say whatsoever in the matter.

Marriage has no link to age. And it wud be wrong to generalise that girls in india marry elderly guys. These are very narrow dimensions and I am sure there cannot be problems just becoz of age. There are several factors that may cause problems. There are guys who marry elderly girls! Now the girls cannot get pregnant after a certain age which is a very big problem!Problems are everywhere! What is important is you marry someone you love!

Parents in India want to marry their young girls with elder men! This is not a choice of the girl it is the choice of their parents! They cannot do anything! This thing(that young women marry older guys) does not exist only in India! In my country( Greece) the most women marry old men because they want to feel safe and they want to be protected, because old men are more experienced and mature!

Most marriages in India are arranged ones. a male in good heath can help create large families rom puberty til death. while a female only has a small period of time to help create children.. a throw back to the preindustrial age when large families were needed to work the farms and industries by hand.
Yes as she Will be less likely to be able to have children and therefore is put in a inferior position .

You must be knowing a girl of 18 is considered mature for marriage, bt in case of guys this age is 21.
The brain structure of a male and female is developed in the way, that girls get mature in early stage of life than guys.
Thats the reason to maintian harmonius relationship and understanding level of both the partners equal it is suggested to maintain a difference of 3 yrs.
