I can see it both ways. It might be honoring to close schools/government offices/etc. We should definitely remember and pay respects. However, there's the argument that we have to go on as normally as possible so that the terrorists don't "win".

I think it was a very tragic day that should be remembered, but I hope its not just for holiday's sake. I think one reason this day will be remembered more than other days is that it changed the ENTIRE world. It is about a specific event that occurred and a very powerful one at that. I remember that I was in 4th grade when it occurred and all anyone could talk about was what happened. I know that at least the people I know will pay their respects. The nation-wide silence isn't a bad idea either.

Showing respect for any matter should not be done with closing all factories, schools and shops. Instead, a nationwide silence should be observed by the entire nation in their respective places, say whether factory, house, schools or shops or in their vehicles by observing silence for a period of 5 minutes say at 11.00 hours throughout the country. No sound will be heard for 5 minutes, that is the best way show our respect.

I've been thinking about that. The anniversary is coming up. I feel for them! I pray for all who were affected! (that would be millions)
What's funny is I always think about how normal and routine that day was! You know what I mean? It was like every other day up until that moment! Then people snapped back into reality on how cruel the real world actually is!
But what can we do? All we can do is pray for those who have lost. And pray the world actually gets along with itself one day!!!

I think that will happen sometime in the future, but I don't think that anyone needs that to remember...i've heard of a really cool movement that everyone just go out and do something good for someone else on 9/11...idealistic, but can you imagine if everyone participated?

Absolutely. I'd bet there will be a national day of mourning/remembrance up for legislation sometime in the near future.

I THINK IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE SOME KIND OF TRIBUTE AND THERE WILL PROBABLY EVENTUALLY BE ONE, IT JUST TAKES TIME. WE NEARLY HAVE ONE NOW, IT JUST DOESN'T HAVE AN OFFICIAL WEEKEND. AND THAT'S THE KEY WORD ISN'T IT? IF ENOUGH PEOPLE WANT IT THERE WILL BE ONE. AS LONG AS IT'S A WEEKEND, SCREW THE REASON, THEY WILL BE HAPPY FOR ANY REASON FOR A THREE DAY....
