The problems with Machine wash are, (1) Missing Socks, (2) reduced life of socks, (3) affects Elastic portion of socks, (4) socks turning in to yarn pieces. And the problem with Hand Wash is the time spent.

For washing socks, clothes, dresses, pants etc., it's best to
hand wash than machine wash, if you have the leisure time.
With machine wash, the fine and nice attires will tear, affect
the buttons and buckles and not last as it reduces the life span.

wash in the machine because it saves you time! and personally i do not like the "air dry" effect at all...i don't think it makes my socks or any clothes feel good on my skin. it is true though...why do socks ALWAYS get lost in the dang laundry?!?!? you aren't the only one that happens to! haha oh and i have never noticed the wash affecting the elastic portion of my socks. i would try washing your socks separate from all of your other clothes. like a 'socks only' load! see if that helps to keep them all together and also maybe keep them together longer. wow that was alot said for just socks. lol ;)

The best way I have found to wash socks, is to gather all whites together and all dark.Get a mesh laundry bag and put your sock in the bag and wash with other white and colors .Socks stay together without loseing any.

99% of socks can be machine washed. Some socks may require handwashing depending on the material.
If you're talking about socks you would use for work, I recommend hand washing them. They could easily rip on a machine wash (no matter the setting.)
Some socks also have colors on them that bleed when washing, I recommend hand washing those as well.
They're cheap so might as well machine wash most of them.

What do you have more of: Money to buy new socks? Or time to hand wash them?
Unless the socks are really dirty, you can extend their lives by tying them inside a pillow case or nylon laundry bag.

I prefer hand wash though time consuming but doesn't loose shape n cleans very well. But to save time just roll ur socks n tuck into other clothes in ur w.mach may be inside any shirt or pants. So ur socks will be clean, won't loose shape n will not lost too. Try it. Happy washing!!

Wow, okay if you ask me... I just use two drier sheets because
1. it makes the clothes smell better and
2. it reduces static by just that much!
Washing socks in the washer really isn't that big of deal... Just make sure you get everything out of the washer before leaving and you shouldn't have to worry about missing socks. Good luck!

Hand wash is best. Because if you put in Machine, the elastic will go off. If you feel this is time consuming then you cant do anything.
