Oh yes indeed! In fact, the guy that introduced me to my chosen path was one. Having read the material on my religion, I find it increasingly difficult to take his conviction seriousely. He breaks almost every one of the few rules set forth and attempts to use the book to defend himself.

Oh yes...
I had an ordained minister friend tell me one time that most people's theology is assology. (a group of us).
He was a very unusual & unconventional minister...Maybe the atheists here should have met him...I was shocked of course, but actually it is true. Now I laugh about it...well, that's a whole story I won't go into.
Just don't get so hung up on...there is God...there is no God...or, I don't know whether God exists or not...God understands why you think what you think, what you believe or don't believe, & there's no reason to try to prove anything. God will take care of that...in His way...in His time...in the way that is right for you. God is an understanding, forgiving, merciful & loving God. Just be yourself...You don't have to make yourself change or believe...just be yourself.
Sorry, didn't mean to preach a sermon...but, well the question was asked.

Every religion has jerks and idiots that follow it. However any philosophy or idea attracts both sincere believers and their share of dolts. My experience over the last half-century or so has been about 2% of people in ANY large group are ''ignant mo-fo's''. Seems like that's just the way it is. Why, you might find nut jobs on Yahoo questions!

Yes. There are jerks and idiots that follow any religion/philosophy, as well as those who don't follow any. Being a jerky idiot is an equal opportunity position.

There are jerks everywhere, of course. No single social, religious or political group is free from jerks. No family is free from jerks. No random association of people is. Except for the PWANJA, the People Who Are Not Jerks Association.

I know of a lot of jerks and idiots who were and are idiots. How about Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Mao Zedong, Atila the Hun and the two kids that shot up Columbine High School.

Yes. Not only jerks but all kinds sick stuff. I’m a Catholic and there’s no denying that my Church has some sick people in it, but there will always be these kinds of people everywhere. Even Jesus had his own traitor among his disciples, and caused him his life.

no, I don't. let them be jerks, they could never follow my religion, because I believe in spirituality not religion. my philosophy, live by the golden rule, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, can jerks and idiots love us and still be jerks and idiots.
i acknowledge they live by a different standard. do unto others before they can do unto you. have love in your heart regardless of the unloving. I can love them that hate me.
