Why do we say "double U." Three syllables to pronounce one letter (two for some people!). I think it's a stupid pronounciation. Anyone agree?
Same with the letter "Y" in European languages.

UU. Over the years the look of the letter has changed but not the name.

Look if you smash two u's together uu it looks like w well two v v 's maybe it should be a double v? Yes w is a funny sounding letter/.
