let's go back to school for a minute....... say you are in social studies and you are going over the slavery period and you have a descusion about what went on back then. why are alot of black people blameing our generation of white people for what went on. I mean not all white people are raceist and it's not their fualts for what went on wwwaaaaaaaayyy back then either. cuase you can't be angry forever you would eventualy have to move on and we did so get over it. I know it was wrong and no one should never had been treated that way but i think that made Our culture and way of life stronger.

People like KryCAli are mainly what get on my nerves. Blacks are NOT at the bottom of the totem pole. We have come so far, and we are still rising. You want to talk about rock bottom? Most Native Americans are STILL being treated like crap. Sure, many of them now run casinos and are doing well. But can money buy happiness? Can money buy you friends and love? No, it can't. If you want to talk about rock bottom, look at what's happening in the Middle East (yes, I know we live in America, but think about it for a moment). The Holocaust happened less than a century ago, and Jews are STILL being exterminated, solely for what they believe in.
Maybe compared to certain aspects of white USA we are considered bottom feeders, but trust whites and blacks are not the only people who live in the USA. And yes, it is true, I debate all the time about how it's so sad that after everything we have struggled through, we can't even get along with each other-but what's worse is that a people who have been through hatred and intolerance, solely based on the color on ones skin, cannot even learn to accept those who are different than them.
Don't presume to think even for one minute that we are at the bottom of anything. We have a long, far way, but there are so many others who never had the opportunities we had. Slavery happened a long time ago, but the atrocities committed against the Indians happened long before slavery. Think about that.

Although your question has merit, may I ask respecfully why you asked it here, in the gay section. No disrespect but I think it would have been asked in the political site. That said however, I must reluctantly agree with you, there does come a point when blaming and resenting future generations becomes self defeating. Consider that although there is still more to do, the danger in constantly blaming another generation is that, that generation then begins to resent back and the cycle starts again.

And to mauricecaselle I say reach for the sky and never look back.

Good comment, and i totally agree with what you have said.

We have the same problem here in New Zealand. When the Europeans landed in New Zealand, they befriended the Maori people and began to trade off their land. The European ways of "buying" land was a new concept to the Maori and it wasnt understood, so basically they were getting a few guns and bits of machinary in exchange for large sections of their land.

Eventually, wars broke out between Maori and Europeans and a lot of blood was spilt. The Maori did loose a lot of land, yes, but quite a lot of that is owned by the Crown and under public use. There are many Maori people out there who still blame the European for what happened over a hundred years ago, but its out of European hands. I can understand why people would be a tad infuriated, but after so long? does it really have to be like this?

You would think that after so long, people would just give up and make peace with it, i mean, live for the now and stop living in the past. The more you live in the past, the more you build up anger and the more of a selfish person you become.

I guess its the same with everything though, do we really need to resort to racial comments to make ourselves feel better? Do we really need to blame others for what happened a few hundred years ago? leave it in the past and move on, live your life, not a life from years gone by.

Many people wish to blame their situation on someone else simply because they are not willing to face their own responsibility for the events within their lives. Unless you are born into a great deal of money every person has a struggle to be "successful" with many choices, right or wrong, along the way.

I think they still blame because there are still a lot of people alive that lived through slavery so it is something that is still kind of fresh, but it is not limited to black people. There are a lot of cultures including some that are dominantly white that blame for past things such as the Holocaust and wars. So I think it is more of a question of why do Americans hold on to things for so many generations? Most of the time they blame the govt and they know that we specifically are not responsible but they don't know where else to turn their frustration for what happened to their families.

Culture and way of life stronger from SLAVERY???!!!! Girlfriend, If you haven't noticed, we're at the bottom of the totem poll. What so strong about that!? Compared to whites, we have more unemployed, more in jail, more murdered or victims of random violence, the list go on and on, and we're STRONGER!!!???? We can't even get along with eachother!!!
I was totally agreeing with you about how we cannot blame today's whites for the actions of their ancestors but you HAD to go and ruin it by sayin’ some UNCLE TOM *hit didn't you?! I am so disappointed!

I totally agree with you, and I respect that you said this. Many people of color(every color race) dont want to admit that the people alive today had nothing to do with the past. Even many of my own race(Native American) still try to blame whites because of what happened. The last person who owned a slave and the last slave died hundreds of years ago. We had nothing to do with the injusticies or our ancestors. Thank you for bringing this question up.

I'm not an American...but much of what you said is true...if you guys want to put and end to this horrible racist situation you're in then you ALL have to sit down and try to resolve/forget and go on...there is no point in constantly repeating the past..whether they were errors or whatever...Lady McBeth said it best "what's done cans't be undone"

I agree. It happened and it was bad and its not happening now and my generation did not do that. No member in my family ever had a slave work for them nor did they ever own own. No body I evermet has ever own one or had one work for them. Not every white person was involved it that . It needs to be closed now we all need to move on. We need not to forget less it never happens to anyone ever again. Black people are not the onle sect of people to ever experience slavery. Its been going on long before America was discover and long before even the 1500, the900s, before 200s befoe christ was born. before BC back in AD there was slavery. I was,nt there .were you?

It's important that we do our best to make sure that everyone, white, black, or whatever, understands that we're in this togeather. Regardless of our color, we must associate ourselves as Americans, not whites, not blacks, etc. I can't fix everything that white people did in the past, or what some of them do now, no more than you as a black, or etc, can atone for the things members of your race have done or do now. What I can do is make sure my children understand that it is important to judge an individual not by the color of their skin, but by their individual merits.
