First find out what his likes and dislikes are. I used to like making Surf and Turf...steak and lobster tails.

The best recipe for a date is one which you have prepared a lot and can do easily. It is more important to be seen as competent and smart, than it is to try and prepare something which you mess up on the way to the table.

And easy means you have more time to talk to your date.

Something you already know how to make very well so nothing can go wrong. If it's something you can make in advance that's even better. Finding out what your date likes and dislikes would show that you're thoughtful.

Pasta is always a great idea because you cannot mess it up. Serve a salad, pasta with a meat sauce, home made garlic bread, and a dessert.

I would make something you've made before, so you can relax, knowing it will turn out well. Also you might ask him if there are any foods he can't eat or foods he really doesn't like.
