Western society appears to worship "The Lumberjack "as the ultimate male idol. I wonder if there is a place for those who are more complex, "karma-conscious", and above those disappointingly basic, traditional role models.
Any ideas, anyone?
Thank you.

In Buddhist philosophy, karma is the sole creator of universe. A good practitioner of buddhist philosophy tend to avoid smallest negative action and tries to do whatever good karma, whether smallest they may be. As Buddha say a spark of fire can destroy a hay as big as mountain and a drop at last will fill a huge water pot.

I wonder if you're really asking a cultural question, as opposed to a religious one. It's a considerable hair to split.

Most faith traditions hold gentleness and compassion in high regard. Check most any sacred text. I think it's the culture that contradicts those traditions, in many cases rewarding the antithesis of the man you describe.

The most extreme interpretation of Ahimsa is probably the Jai perspective. It is, however, incompatible with reason. To be karma conscious is to try to intellectually decide whether a given action will be "good" or "bad". to do thisd you would have to know the influence of an action across all of time and space. |This is why the Vedas say "Ahimsa is Dharma". Just do your dharma and leave the guess work out.

I find that Buddhist philosophy is very gentle in the way of its acceptance of the life force, both in its negative and positive forms, because each can be used as the other.
