See, that's the whole point. I don't think they have contempt for God - they don't think he is real, why hate him? The contempt they feel seems to be more aimed at those who believe in God or anything that they can not tangibly or scientifically prove.

I don't think we show contempt, on the contrary, it's all the killing, murdering, wife beating, alcoholic, child abusing, cheating on taxes, robbing of liquor store, sexual abusers of children part time Christians that show the most contempt!

I think it's hard to have reverence for something you don't believe in. I think that they think we're ridiculous for believing in something we can't see.
