Corgi! I cannot stress this enough. Corgi's are actually considered one of the best breeds for apartment dwellers. My parents have a 4 month old Corgi, and he's quite a good dog.
My brother has a beagle.....a very energetic, very stubborn, pain in the *** beagle. My in-laws have had beagles for years. The one thing I can tell you about this breed? They're NOT good for apartments. Hell, I wouldn't ever have one period because they can be pretty hard to train.....but if I were to ever even consider it, I'd make sure it had acres and acres to safely run. This is not because they need more exercise than a corgi, but because they sometimes run off and don't want to come back.
Just in my personal experience (our family dog throughout my teen years was a corgi/sheltie mix), corgi's are much more intelligent than beagles.
And corgi's are VERY kid friendly if raised properly. My parents' puppy adores children.
I would highly suggest doing some reading on each breed to make the choice that you think best suits you and your lifestyle. But if it were up to me, you'd get a corgi:)
Here's some info on both breeds.

Beagles do shed. How do I know this? Well, I work in an office where the dog comes every day & I vacuum his hair up all the time. Plus when the dogs been in my car & he leaves the car is full of his hair!
Both dogs are cute, beagles do like to sleep a lot. Just because they are a hunting dog doesn't mean that that is all they do. This particular beagle sleeps all day, is very mellow and isn't into hunting. But beagles do like to howl which can tend to annoy the neighbors. If I were you I'd go for the corgi. They are cute dogs as well, and very well behaved!
Good luck!

As a beagle owner, I have to warn you that beagles DO shed. A lot.
And some bay/howl when left alone for extended periods of time (not all...mine doesn't...but a lot do). This is one thing if you live in your own house...but it's a whole 'nother thing if you live in an apartment...surrounded by other apartments. You'll have a lot of pissed-off neighbors.
Beagles are very much an outdoor breed. That's not to say you CAN'T have one in an apartment. Of course you can! Definitely do-able. You just need to be prepared to exercise it outdoors. Regularly.
Don't know much about the Corgi. I'm sure someone else will pipe up.
Before you get any kind of dog, it's best to assess your lifestyle, how much time/effort you're willing/able to devote to a dog, and then do a lot of research.
Good luck!

Well they are both stubborn. And a beagle will howl, and may cause probs with the neighbors. Both need to outside, remember a beagle is a hunter, and needs to run and sniff the ground. Are you home long enough to do this, or will he be couped up all day. Corgi's also need exercise, they can get fat quickly. If you are in an apartment you may want to consider a smaller dog like a chihuahua or yorkie. But also remember they have small bladders and can not hold it all day so you will need to invest in training pads for the floor.

Corgi....
we had a beagle at one time and they get bored very easy. They are chewers and barkers, so in an apartment I think a Corgi would be happier there. Beagles are so curious and like to explore and not be crammed in somewhere.

Corgi! Beagles are sweet and I love them. I had one a few yrs. back and my son has 3.
But they bark and howl. Not good for the neighbors in the apartment.

Corgi. I've had Corgi's in apt.s....They are much more tolerant of small places, much more laid back, and less likely to run away. By the way, the Corgi that I owned was the best dog that I've ever had...and I've owned several. She was a great guard dog and stopped two break ins. She was great with kids too.

I had a Beagle, but beware, they are part of the hound group and when they catch a hold of a scent, they run! Have an enclosed yard just in case. Great dog though, I miss him dearly.
