First, I just want to say that I beleive Dogzilla is the most evil thing we have today. That said:
Well that depends - Christianity on the one hand tells us to "turn the other cheek" but on the other hand tells us that if we have no sword and no money we must sell our cloak to obtain the funds to buy one. Simply put, the idea is that Christians aren't allowed to start trouble but must always be ready to end it.
Islam, religion of peace, on the other hand, has direct and clear commands within it's holy writings which state that you must either successfully convert or kill every non-believer you encounter.
So, you tell me, can a religion be the source to inspire violence?
My answer is it depends on the religion. Christians, as I see it, generally cannot be a source of the original violence but are allowed to defend themselves appropriately. Moslems, on the other hand, are directed to start trouble. At least that's the way I see it. Anyone beg to differ?
And mind you, I'm NOT saying there has never been a person who claimed to be a Christian but instead committed the most un-Christian act of starting trouble and claiming it was religion that drove them to do so.

It might be more accurate to say that religion can be used to inspire violence and war -- no matter what the religion actually teaches.
If you read the New Testament, you will find that Jesus was a man of peace. However, the First Crusade was preached to capture Jerusalem and protect Christian pilgrims - instead of "loving your enemies".
I don't know what the Koran actually teaches, but I can't believe mass murder and suicide bombs are part of it. Yet, people are incited to commit this kind of violence by religious leaders.

No. Human nature is the source. Take away religion, and other ideologies, primarily political, fill the void. Communism -- supposedly the absence of religion -- is a prime example: Communism's 100 million+ deaths offer sad proof.
Attacking religion isn't just wasted energy; it's a manifestation of the same human nature that causes this bravo sierra in the first place. Be careful YOU aren't the source.

In the world today, religion is not a tool to reach the ultimate, but every religion is trying to prove it's power over other religion, conversions to increase numbers etc are a proof of this. And yes they do lead to violence.

no, thou shalt not kill, if u are actually religious then the 10 commandments are something u live by and one of them is not to kill, if u do however , it has nothing to do with religion its just your own stupidity. and as far as religions that believe killing is good like some muslims, that is not a religion that is some sick individuals.
don't blame violence on religions ,
blame it on the idiots that did the violence

Prof. Richard Dawkins calls it "The root of all evil" I am inclined to agree.Wars have been happening on and off for hundreds of years in the name of religion, the classic example being the crusades during the middle ages.

I don't believe so...unfortunately, some people are more prone to violent actions than other people. A person with violent tendencies can find "inspiration" anywhere.

Yes it can. Muslim extremists bomb parts of the Middle East everyday, and they caused September 11th to occur. The greatest action a muslim extremist can act out is the murder of an American Christian. Not all Muslims are like that, but some are extremists who want to kill Christians for Allah, so yes.

Nothing worse than a narrow minded religious zealot. No matter what religion he / she is. They believe that everyone should believe what they do and are ready to condemn and kill any one who does not. Muslim religion included but not the only one.
