why do people think that the bible is true while a book such as the odyssey is considered fiction. it was written in a similar format to the bible and written before the bible. if it was popular to worship the odyssey im sure people would believe that too.

Simply because it has been taught to them for generation after generation that it is the Word of God. Right or wrong, it's hard to buck centuries of conditioning - don't you think?

Peace!

Actually the bible was written over a period of several hundreds of years and some of the prophecy's were written 400 years or more before they actually happened, that in itself gives it authority. No other book has a track record like that.

The book of Isaiah was written between 687 and 740 years before Christ and is full of prophecy's about the birth life and death of Christ. And you know what Christ was born and was crucified and this is not just a story, it is historically verifiable.

I could go on, but it's better if you look for yourself, I will suggest a book you might want to look up called 'Evidence that demands a verdict', or 'More evidence that demands a verdict' both by Josh McDowell. It seems that he set out to prove the bible to be a lie but when he did his research he found it proved it self true time and time again.

well, the Odyssey was one book written by ONE man, whereas the Bible is a collection of 66 books, written over a 1500 year span, by several authors, from different regions, ALL confirming the same information! THAT in itself is a true miracle! Not to mention that the Bible is still the same today as it was in the original manuscripts! To know truth, all you have to do is look! The proof is there!

It depends on what and Who you believe in.
I believe in God so I know the Book I believe in is the Bible.
When a book is written in the text of a fiction, it is fiction. Same goes with the new book that was made into a movie. The only reason the author changed his mind and tried to make out that it was fact, he saw all the attention it was getting and that made more money for him.
People need to get their act together before it is too late...

Humans are afraid of what they don't understand...such as death and beyond...so over time these "beliefs" have been generated to eliminate fear. Some religions preach that the bible is absolutely true while others try to show it as the good in humans. Either way, it's a way for people to shy away from reality and not face their fears. A friend of mine once said the only difference between a cult and a religion is the number of followers.

We'll it is a true story and people need to learn about the true words that Jesus said. YOu migh t say, Where's proof? We'll it's easy. Ave you ever been to Venus or mars? I bet you haven't which means that you have not prooven that Venus ore Mars is a planet when you haven't been there. It's the same with the bible. Many people believe in things that they have never seen.

Why not? They can (and DO) believe in just about everything else. Tell someone a lie tonight- & you could be reading it in TIME magazine next year... People will swallow anything if it suits any of their fears, hopes or agendas. People NEED to believe in the message of the Bible- because it works for THEM. Whether it's right, wrong or balderdash, - it's something they can believe in to sustain themselves through the hard times. I mean, turn this around: why do YOU need to query about it? Does it BOTHER you that others believe in something you DON'T? The reality IS, people "break" easily. -And anything that helps us "hold it all together..." -is usually a pretty GOOD thing, no matter WHAT it is...

It"s not so much that it"s true,it"s that people believe that it is.It has a great deal to how they were raised. It's easier to go along than to refuse the wishes of your parents and the threats of what God will do to you.I at ended church with Mom and Dad,but religion was never pushed on me .My parents said this is what we believe, you can make your own choice later, and I did. My choice, after reading the bible was "no thank you"It had allot of good stories, but come on..............you gotta believe it all or none, and if you believe it all then I have the deed to the Empire State building, and I"ll sell it to the highest bidder.

The Bible correctly predicted, 2000 years in advance that God would send someone to fix the problem that our first parents caused.

Jesus Christ arrived, just as predicted, and he did exactly what the Bible claimed he would do.

He's also promised to come again. Stick around and keep your eyes open.

There is no book that says it isn`t true !!!! Odyssey was written and inspired by a man ? Bible was inspired by Gods` Word , and this is what Gods` word thinks of your question.......Ecclesiastes 5 : 2 ..( Be not rash with thy mouth , and let not thine heart be hasty to utter anything before God : for God is in heaven , and thou upon earth : therefore let thy words be few . )

The difference is that you cannot talk to Homer, the one who wrote the Odyssey. God you can have relationship with, that is the purpose of the book to show you how to further that realionship.
