He barks, at the door bell, when people come into the house, next door neighbours, he is jack russel / staffy mix.

He is a rescue dog, and has been badly treated and beaten in the past, so some training may be unsuitable.

He is a lovely Dog, loves food, love and warmth, due to his past of being mistreated and starved on the streets. Due to his passion for all things edible, we have taught him to beg, sit and stay.

In my opinion this is his only fault, would be great if he didnt bark so much and awaken my 3 month old baby!

Have you tried clicker training?
You can get the clicker for about £1 and you need a bag of treats or you can get a kit with instructions for about £5.
Bascially click to distract when he comes and sits give treat this dose take time though its not a quick fix

My dogs bark at all that, too. I figure they are protecting us. I came home once to my back door having a broken glass pane. I guess they didn't enter due to the barking dogs, who were ironically in a basesment kennel, so not seen. I would think this dog, or most, would be very challenging with a new baby. With time, they have learned to quiet down, when I tell them, "Quiet". Some people I know train "Bark" or "Speak" when they do this, putting this behavior on command with treats. Then they only bark on command, I'm told.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/cbcix

By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.

To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

I just read these sites about 10 minutes ago. I'm brushing up on puppy training skills because we are planning to get a puppy. And I haven't raised a puppy in a long time. I hope this helps.

i'm of the opinion that a dog will bark just as people will talk, it's what they do. probably strict obedience training would be helpful but it sounds like he's been through alot and might reject strict training. just love him. my children were accustomed to noise so the dog's barking didn't wake them.

We have this problem with our rescued dog, there is no cure- he loves you and is showing his love by protecting you, it will get better with time, due to his jack russell nature he will always be vocal.

Use a dog whistle it tends to annoy them if you blow it when they bark. I did this because mine barked on a night until I 'issed it of enough to quit

you have to be patient with him, but if that fails you can buy a collar that makes an electronic buzz that annoys them, it only happens if they bark to much
