I certainly can empathise with your situation. I dont know of any-one who self mutilates who really understand why they do it. Lots of people have different theories. The only thing I know is, that self mutilation is something people do when they have had something horrific happen to them....and maybe is still happening to them

A lot of self harmers really are not trying to commit suicide, nor are they trying to gain attention. The sad thing though is that a lot of self harmers end up dying because they cut too deep, or took too many pills...they werent looking to suicide...only to make the pain go away. So you are risking your life and your future. And I disagree with one of the answers that self mutilation stops as you get older....In a lot of cases it does, but in just as many cases it doesnt. You need to seek out some professional help...you need to do this quickly because you may end up a statistic yourself.

You are a precious person, who has been a victim for too long. It is now time to assert your personal power and find someone who can help you deal more effectively with the emotional pain you are feeling.

If you havent told anyone about the abuse you have suffered or maybe are still suffering, then its time to tell someone about it......and a professional counsellor is the best place to start.

I read a book awhile back called Cut by Patricia Mccormick -- are you familiar with it?

This from the Author about the book

"Patricia McCormick’s Personal Take on Cut

"... When I read stories, I see, or hope to see, aspects of my life reflected in them. I’m always looking for answers in the books I read; if not answers, at least somebody who has the same question. No matter what, I’ve always taken great comfort knowing there is someone else out there struggling to make sense of the same things I’m struggling with. I hope my book will be the kind of book that reaches other readers the way those books have affected me. "

I recommend it. Try to find someone to trust that you can talk with -- and above all.... Take care of yourself.

I understand totally, dear. I often cut to find a way to ease my pain. It provided an emotional outlet for me. Or, it did. But then, I realized I can deal with the pain in my life in other ways. You can, too. Try to do other things when feeling the urge to cut. What i do sometimes is wear a rubber band on my wrist, and when I have to feel that I need to cut, I just lightly flick my wrist with the rubber band. Or, sometimes, when I feel bad, I go someplace private, like my room, and scream, or hit a pillow. There are lots of different ways to deal. Find a talent. Throw yourself into your work. I don't like medicine, and I feel that I can control this myself. But sometimes, medicine can help. What ever you decide to do, just know that, yes, there are people who understand what you are facing, and know that they want to help. And, I hope I helped. Good luck, and I hope that everything works out for you.

You need help. Physically hurting yourself isn't healthy. It may be a release, but there are better ways. Try something else like expressing yourself through art. It's an excellent release for me.

Please seek professional help for the pain you are trying to release. Cutting is not healthy and only obscures the issues you need to deal with in your life. I wish you well on your journey.
