I think "highlight" should look like highlight. ie what your hair will look like when you are outside on a sunny day. However, if you want the "chunky" look, I don't blame you.

I've done that look and thought it was fun. However, it's such a contrast, that you definitely notice it. So, you have to be committed to the look.
If you're the type that likes to switch the way your hair looks, you might go for less chunky highlights and something a bit more natural--caramel color. It's kind of a pain to grow out the chunky ones.
My only advice: Just be good to your hair. Don't overdo the chemicals. Try something and wait awhile before you color it again.

I don't like 'chunky' highlights in general -- whether it be on blondes, brunettes, or redheads. They seem very amateur, especially if you're paying money for a salon stylist or barber to deal with your hair -- the dilemma is that chunky highlights make you seem insecure of your own hair color unless you have a confident aura about you, otherwise it seems like your overcompensating for a dislike for your natural color -- they look very fake and don't blend well with dark shades, unless of course you're aiming for a 'rock star' fashion. I would go with hair glazers or a more auburn / chestnut highlight tastefully applied to your hair so it looks natural, or at the very least, unworried and laidback.

NO!!!!!!!!! Please, for the love of God, I beg you. Don't do it. It was a fad that should have never occurred. And from what I can tell...has...well...had??? disappeared. I'm not trying to be rude or mean here, but ehh...no. I haven't seen one person that it looks good on. If you want to go with blonde highlights go with a few slimmer ones that accent your facial structure...not chunky. They chunky heel is out...why would chunky hair be in?

No!! At least not chunky ones. They look cheap as hell! If you want highlights, go for natural looking ones (like Alessandra Ambrosio's)...ones that make your hair look healthier and better, not worse. It also depends on your face shape, too.

sound like a little too much contrast. I would suggest if dark brown, go golden brown or blonde, but platinum is sooo bright next to dark brown.

Go with a beige blonde. The platinum will look like grey hair next to the dark brown.

Both look good! But I would go with the lighter ombre look that you had placed first if your going for more of a older look. The dark down makes you look a bit on the young little girl side
