I hit it off the tee fine with a 3-wood (200 yards). What do I have to change in my swing or positioning to hit it off the ground?
I always hit low liners, can not get it in the air.
Please help, thanks

with all this advice you are sure to be confused by the time you read all the different answers, but before i put my 2 bobs worth in you should go for lessons at your local golf club, anyway here i go
1, line the ball up with the inside of your left heel
2, your left arm should should remain straight, the right can bend as much as it likes
3, the right elbow must be kept tucked into your side the whole swing
4,your down swing should feel as if, you swing in close to you body coming down but should feel like you are pushing out as you hit the ball,
5, remember if you want to hit the ball high and long your ****** wrists have to straighten up just before you impact
6, don't try and hit the ball in the air, just hit it,and follow through the loft in the club is for putting it in the air
hope this helps you

You can tee it up or hit it without a tee. But stick to hitting it off the tee. You can hit driver off the deck, but only if you think you are Viay Singh. He does it quite often. It is very hard to hit a 3-wood from the fairway, without a tee. You need to "sweep" the ball more. If you miss, you'll top it and embarrass yourself. If you want to hit a wood or long iron from the ground, get a 19-degree 2-iron hybrid. Much easier than a 3-wood. Look at Tiger's article in this month's Golf Digest. There is a picture of him trying to hit a 3 or 5-Wood from the fairway. He describes how to do it. If you're interested, Greg Norman's website used to have tips on how to hit a driver off the ground.

If you are hitting liners with a 3 - wood...you are hitting down on the ball. Move the ball up a little in your stance and sweep the ball of the grass. You shouldn't have to change your swing. A big key is don't swing at the ball. Take your normal practice swing and let the ball get in the way of your swing.

You have to have a good lie for starters. The best way to do it is to go to the driving range. Start hitting it off the tee. Keep lowering the tee little by little. Before you know it the tee will be lower than the grass. Once you know in your mind you can do it, you will have no problem.

I have the same problem sometimes. Make sure you're not attempting to lift the ball. Brush the grasss on your practice swing and try to sweep through the ball. Keep your head still.
