A dedication ritual is one in which you dedicate yourself to the God and Goddess and the religion of Wicca. It is the step you take before an initiation into a coven (or solitary, if you prefer). It is a little bit like a baptism, in a way, because it is welcoming yourself and dedicating yourself to study of the religion. However, it is not something to be too lightly. Only dedicate yourself if you are absolutely sure this is what you want.

I, personally, don't really believe that dedication rite or self-initiation rites are necessary... it just seems so ceremonial, which is not my personal style. I don't feel like I need to do a ritual, because the Lord and Lady know my heart already. I don't think I need to dedicate or initiate myself to be a 'real' witch...

But, if you feel it is really important for you to help you realize your commitment to the religion of Wicca, there is a Self-Dedication ritual on page 43 of Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft, by Raymond Buckland. It's a big blue book and you can't miss it at the book store! Here is a link on Amazon to it:

Also, there are some dedications that are called 'Seeker' ceremonies. These are similar to dedications, but actually are a commitment to studying and learning about Wicca and witchcraft for a year and a day for you to decide if it truly is the right thing for you or not. After the year and a day you may choose to continue on the Wiccan path, or go elsewhere if you have decided it's not the right thing for you anymore.

There are one of each type of ritual in 'The Ultimate Book of Shadows for the New Generation Solitary Witch', by Silver Ravenwolf. The seeker ceremony is on page 90, the self-dedication ritual on page 93.

Here is an amazon link to that book as well:

I, personally, really like the one that is in Ray Buckland's book, but obviously, if you can't get a hold of the book (which is a great book to read to begin with) that isn't an option. If you can afford to purchase the book, don't be afraid to check and see if they have it at your local library. I'm pretty sure my local library has the book there.

I hope this helps! I would love to chat with you about your spiritual path to help you out if you need or are interested.

Blessings, Light, and Love!

I'm just learning about it myself. I have a few books that I've read and I don't remember reading anything about a dedication ritual. I've read about the initiation ritual called the Wiccaning but that's after the one year and a day training. Here are the titles of the books I have in case you're interested. The Wicca Handbook by Eileen Holland, The Wiccaning by Sister Moon and Exploring Wicca by Lady Sabrina.

Haven't heard of it. My priestess isn't on line tonight or I'd hook ya up. Wicca is in the heart, and you will know if you are dedicated or not.
Just live it every minute of the day...the rest will come naturally when your ready.
Blessed Be....

consider which way you want to go in Eternity first, Hell or Heaven, before dwelling into an occult spirituality.
