I would say that that is more disrespectful than anything. The tattoos represent the Nazis efforts to dehumanize their prisoners. If you want a way to remind yourself of it, maybe get a bracelet with it engraved on it, or a locket?
By the way, what camp(s) did your father go through? I went to Poland last year to see the camps, and have since been trying to learn more about survivors.

you probably don't want to because it will make people depressed and less likely to talk to you (the Holocaust is not a good conversation starter). If you really want it tattoed, maybe in a less conspicuous place, eg. the back of your ankle? But if really want to, do it on your arm, just expect lots of questions about it.

I think you should ask him. That number to him is something horrible, I'm sure. He's forced or been forced to live with it forever, and you want to choose to. It is in my opinion an honor to your heritage, however I belive your father will feel differently. You really should ask him.

Yes! you certainly can, but you must remember that a tatoo can be considered permanent. Nowdays thay can be removed but it is painful and costly, but so was the tat. good luck

no, jews do not tattoo anything onto themselves. its considered disrespecting G-d, because he did not give our bodies to us so that we could permanently mutilate them.
