After reading some of these supposed "questions" on this site, I am beginning to wonder if it still exists, especially among the young. Do people these days sacrifice morality for the sake of what they deem as humor? I am not a prude, I understand sick humor but come on, we have to draw the line somewhere. What do you think?

Thank you to all who answered. Most of you were able discuss my question intelligently and I appreciate that.
I should have mentioned this query came about after reading a "question" in regards to taking Steve Irwin's kids fishing in sting ray infested waters. The "asker" was obviously trying to be funny.
Someone brought up a good point about this site being international, I hadn't thought of that. There are definately different sensibilities in other cultures.
Also I should not have generalized the young were the main culprits behind these "questions". Someone brought up the point there is no way of knowing and I agree with that. I apologize.
As far as me being tired of this site and not coming on anymore, that was not the point of this question. I just wanted to see how others felt about this subject. Besides, anything I see that I find offensive, I report and move on. It goes without saying, there is something on here for everyone.
Thank you all again.

Decency is relative, I agree, but I also agree that there isn't much of it on this site.
But also, the way no one has to take ownership of what they say here provides an ideal platform for all the freaks to vent their opinions.
Personally, I don't believe half of what I read here is believed by the people who write it.
They just do because they can and their real name will never be associated with it.
The really scary ones for me are the religious types who trawl the gay sites telling us what evil people we are and what a horrible death we're going to die.
I think the young are being unfairly maligned too. They aren't responsible for half the nasty stuff on this site, and generally they will grow out of it if they have said anything nasty.
I was on a bus the other day and 2 school kids offered me their seats. Each time an adult got on, another kid would get up and offer their seat. All is not lost!!! (but I am in Australia... maybe we are different)
Have heart though, because decent people go further in life than others.
If nothing else, it is easier to live with yourself when you aren't an ******

Heather,
You're exactly right! If you have ever heard it went down the tube? I would have to say that tv has helped emmensely to destroy common decency.
Let me quote an artlicle from the Reader's Digest:
This is not an appeal for prudery, but for prudence. The United States has problems with drugs, high-school sex, AIDS and rape. None of these will go away until people in positions of responsibility come forward and explain, in frankly moral terms, that some of the things people do nowadays are wrong.
I think Bill Clinton getting "sucked off" in the white house and then lying about it before the whole country had a harmful affect on the teenagers of that era. It was a national calamity on an international scale.

I blame the parents, and lack of supervision.. most parents don't have the slightest idea what their kids are doing or saying let alone who they are talking to.. that is why the child molesters are having so much fun these days.. There needs to be more parent supervision on the computers and the parents need to know what the kids are saying, even on here.. for the most part the smart mouth replies should not be on here.. people are asking questions they really want answers to, and they get some silly kid that just wants to shoot off their mouth, and has no idea how to answer the question, but wants some points.. should be some way a parent gets an email of what their kids put out on here.. that would stop a lot of it !

WONDERFUL QUESTION!!!!!!!!!! I would love to expound on it, but I've got a book setting on my desk that I have yet to read, but it's recommended highly, so let me tell you about it. It's entitled "A Deficit of Decency" by Zell Miller who served as a Senator from Georgia up to 2004. He has also been Georgia's Lieutenant Governor, and governor for two terms. And, if I'm correct, he was a sargeant in the Marines. I haven't read the book, but I have a funny feeling he addresses the very question you ask, and can address your question much better than I can, so . . .. The book was published by Stroud and Hall Publishers in Macon, Georgia, in 2005. Sean Hannity has written a Forward in it, so I feel sure they address your question. I do hope you read it and get the answers you want. I think he'll do a much better job than any answer you'll get here. God Bless you.

Whatever happened, decency certainly isn't very common. I agree that some of the so-called questions are 'way out of line. Perhaps some of them are posted strictly for the purpose of getting a reaction, but surely there are other ways of generating a discussion.

People are so addicted to the "what Hollywood thinks is normal" that they are easily influenced to the point of not knowing what is decent or not anymore. When you have celebrities smoking in movies. Kids (younger and younger) these days think it is cool to "light one up". I don't think that enough money is being spent of positive ads. Used to not so long ago, you wouldn't even hear a curse word on a television show. Now shows like Desperate Housewives shows you just how desperate the corporations are at getting viewers. And what's the deal with adult swim on cartoon network?

"Common Decency" is relative to the culture. You need to remember that this site is an international website. What constitutes humor varies from place to place. You're also making the assumption the obnoxious questions are posted by younger individuals. There is little to no way to prove that on this site. You might want to rethink your own biases before you decide for the world what "common decency" should or should not be.

You know something? You just have to ignore it as best you can. These people are seeking one thing only. Attention. They get off on doing this shock shlock stuff, at the thought that someone out there in cyberspace is being repulsed, riled, or any other reaction that feeds their perversion.

They are not sacrificing morality for humor -- it's just that sex has come out of the closet -- it is not on the indecent list any more. Someones morality does not have any thing to do with there sense of humor! Now -- lets have some fun -- LOL

You say "sacrifice morality for the sake of... humor" like it's a bad thing. As a young person myself, morality isn't something I'd be proud of having. ;)
